Gamescom 2011 Starts off with a Big Bang
Posted on Wednesday, August 17 2011 @ 20:13:05 Eastern

The first day of Gamescom is pretty much a wrap and the event taking place here in Cologne, Germany runs from August 17 through the 22nd, and with over 500 exhibits to try and cover, we of course will be hitting the big stories first, and thankfully they've allowed us to get those scoops first with the pre-press conferences from Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo held yesterday.

Gamescom 2011 Press Conference

Some of the other exhibits here of notable mention include Capcom, NCSoft, THQ, Warner Bros., and Bethesda at the top of our list to hunt for further details that we might have missed from E3. As far as the pre-event for press only, Microsoft showed off some great stuff for Gears of War 3, Forza 4 as well as Halo CE Anniversary.

Then tonight is the awards ceremony to unveil the best PC, Console, Mobile, Online, and Family anticipated titles, a best gaming hardware award, and finally a Best of Gamescom Award.   We'll see what happens there. So far it's the usual suspects with WB showing off Arkham City, Sony showing off their shiny Vita's, and we also intend to hit up the demo for Modern Warfare 3, 2K's Borderlands 2 and THQ's Saints Row the Third along with a surprise announcement from them.

Of course this is an extremely highlighted focus summary and we'll see what the GGD editor gets up first based on importance and coolness!  :)   Keep on top of all the latest Gamescom details on our topics page here:  GameGuideDog covers Gamescom 2011
