Quality on the rise
Posted on Wednesday, November 28 2007 @ 15:48:20 Eastern

It seems like suddenly, after three years of the Game Revolution Beta, the member reviews are picking up. Gone are the constant A+ games that have just three sentences of barely readable praise over some aspect of the game that is liked, and instead we have well researched, informative, and well written reviews.

A lot of the new guys I have seen, like AcidTrip, Mattay, Masterdude, JCD and most recently Snowseph, have quality reviews that they make on their own, and surpass even my own skills as a writer.

Let's face it, I am a bad writer. I always have spelling errors and I often repeat myself when making points. I do, however, have a style all on my own, one that I crafted and adopted since my first review on this website. I also am usually a consistant writer, meaning I give at the very least, a quality review to a game.

And while I still see one paragraph reviews out there from time to time, it is good to see guys and gals like those mentioned above, and anyone else I forgot to mention, give in great input and solid contributions that are needed on this website. When it was only Tyrranis and myself writing what seemed to be quality reviews for a time, (2005-2006) it was like waiting for the big guys to say something about their favorite game, or whatever game is popular at that very moment.

Many of those that frequent the forums, or comment in the reviews, have become afficionados in their crafts. I am just glad that the growing number of quality is starting to surface. Not for nothing, but I enjoy reading the reviews of others when they have something to say. Even if it is as short as three paragraphs, or as long as short essay, that is a good review as long as they make their points clear.

If anything else, it adds some credibility to the website as well. We have members who make great pieces of work on here and you can see this as an example of how to do a real review of a game. So once again, as I ramble on, good job to the new guys and gals who contribute reviews to the website. I can't wait to see what else you have to say.

One thing you seem to be forgetting Links, is that it was you who set the bar so high for the quality of member reviews in the first place. You're pretty much the father of the GR member reviews and no matter how many quality reviewers we get, yours will always be the first reviews I read. You're giving yourself a lot less credit than you deserve. Other than that, I completely agree. There has been a massive influx of reviewing talent over the last few months, let's hope it keeps up! (Thanks for the mention by the way, I appreciate that.)

Indeed, JCD has a point. As a long time reader first time writer (so to speak) of GR, I've always taken great pleasure in reading your reviews, and I've grown to appreciate and value your opinion almost as much as GR themselves. =) I just hope that now I've finally made the effort to sign up I'll be able to make half the impact you've made.
