So much more than war...

The recent blog, Peace in the Era of Call of Duty  really made me think about war games that dig deeper than simply a kill streak reward. The first game that came to mind was Spec-Ops: The Line and although I haven’t played it, I began to wonder if it did the war genre as...

Why the 3DS isn't a good fit
Posted on Sunday, April 17 2011 @ 22:37:17 Eastern

In my head, there has been alot of debate revolving around the aforementioned statement; Is the world truly ready for a 3D handheld game system? Well, for me, I'm not so sure about that.

Take a look at Nintendo's Virtual Boy. It was supposed to be a full fledged, POV-styled Virtual Reality system. However, due to lack of graphics, and a lack of gaming titles, it was quickly debunked within 13 releases or so. Since then, Nintendo never really made any core effort into making another 3D/Virtual Reality themed system.

Look back into Nintendo's history, starting at the N64. At the time, it's bigest competitors were Sony, and the badass Playstation, and Sega with it's epic Dreamcast. Both used CD's, which really hooked in the casual gamer, allowing for better graphics. Nintendo stuck to it's guns, and continued to make cartridges as its way of gaming.

Now we jump to the next of kin, the Gamecube. Nintendo finally jumpstarted it's technology to disks. However with a catch ; a Micro - sized disk. Approximately half of the size of a PS2, or XBOX disk, gamers were relatively perplexed as to why Nintendo would make a gaming device with a half sized CD.

Last but not least, we have the Wii. The Wii uses its infamous Nunchuck and Wiimote to make you feel like your actually interacting with the game, and perhaps giving you a workout in the process.

Although there is nothing wrong with wanting to become a gimmicky game system to seperate yourself from the competition, it could really make or break your device. That is why with the 3DS, I feel that it is not yet ready for a release.

Don't get me wrong, the thing is cool as all balls, but with todays market, alot of of gaming depends on multiplayer, and online capabilities. Although the Wii does have Internet connectivity, as well as the 3DS, I don't expect that to be its saving grace, persay. I have faith in Nintendo, and as long as they can make a nice library of games to support the 3DS, it'll have a nice lifespan. But thats the key, is the actual library. As I look at the current library, the only game to really stick out for me is the Street Fighter game. I'll give you Ghost Recon, but it ends there.

Perhaps with the relase of the upcoming Resident Evil for the 3DS, maybe it'll sway my opinion, but for now, I just don't see myself purchasing one.

PS2 VS PS3
Posted on Thursday, July 9 2009 @ 05:01:04 Eastern

There has been a lot of talk back and fourth about which system is better, between Sony. The PS2, or the PS3? Well, I'm here to weigh out all options for you...

Now, first things first. This is the kind of trouble you get when you release two systems so close to each other, you get a console war. The amazing thing is, that a lot of people still choose a PS2, instead of its upper scale "opponent".

This is all started when I went to the video game store yesterday, and Many, who knows me by name because I'm in there constantly, told me that they still get a lot of customers asking about PS2, and sometimes it seems that they are asking for it more than the PS3 model. This irked me enough to write this...

Anyway, the first different is pricing, now, obviously, with the PS2 being out ever since 2001, it's price has dropped tremendously, first starting out at, I believe $300, to now, you can find it just short of $100. Evidently enough, if Sony gets the call, they still make them. Anyway, if you want a good, cheap, console, that will last you quite sometime, I do suggest the PS2

However, if you are looking for better graphics, up-to-date games, and the most intense action, I would suggest a PS3. I played the PS3 for the first time in 2007, when my brother first got his. I remember Warhawk. Warhawk was a game that mainly took place online, it was you defeating other soldiers, and it didn't matter if you did it through air or land, as long as you defeated them, if you were the last one standing...You Win. Maybe I'll do a review on that...

Anyway, PS3 also has an internal Memory drive, so you don't have to buy memory cards, unlike the PS2. But, if you wanted to play retro Sony games, you need a Memory Adapter, and the Memory Card, which serves as a problem for me. Shouldn't the Memory Adapter come with it? Its not the consumers fault that Sony put USB Drives where the Memory Cards normally go, they cant help that. Although, Its a terrible, but effect ploy to get people to buy extra Sony gear. I guess its Sony's right...

You know what I think is kinda funny, throughout all of this talk, and the battle of Sony, where still forgetting Sony's "Forgotten" Love Child, the Playstation Portable.

See, thats just too much Sony at the same time, three systems. WWE Smackdown VS RAW 2010 is coming out in November on all three systems. I'm sure it's costing WWE tons of money to be on not only those three, but XBOX 360, Wii, and DS, all at the same time! Sony might just drive parent companies bankrupt with how much consoles they put out. I say to Sony, they shouldn't put a new system out for atleast 5-10 years, we have TOO much gaming.

Wow. I never thought I would've said too much gaming, but apperently, I just did. This all coming from a blogger, who nearly spends from the time he gets up, to the time he leaves for work not only blogging, but talking about gaming as well. What can I say?

Now, in my own personal opinion, I would say the PS2 serves alot better than the PS3, however I can't let my own personal taste interfere in this debate...With that being said, I think the winner should be no other, than the PS3.

I say this because its more modern, (Even though I usually dont' judge on this) the graphics are a lot better, as well. They have a Blu-Ray Option, along with regular DVD's for your viewing pleasure, and plus, Internet options, which can do you tons of good if you don't have a regular PC. Hm, maybe Dell should look into getting a game console....
