UPDATE: Vox Pop Under Renovation
Posted on Wednesday, May 12 2010 @ 18:24:57 Eastern

I recently featured 10000_Squirrels' editorial "In-Game Collectibles, My Personal Demon", but it seems I need to update everyone on some decisions. I will re-feature the editorial over the weekend or on Monday, because this blog doesn't need to be highlighted any longer than it has to.

The Vox Pop contest is still in beta, but a few decisions have been made. No physical or monetary prizes will be the reward (we may actually run out of tchotskies...). Right now, the main reward is being featured on the site in the Vox Pop box. However, we're working on featuring Vox Pop editorials more thoroughly throughout the site; that is, if the editorial is exceptional, as determined by the GR team, then it might be featured as an actual editorial in the official highlight section. (O_O) This is just one idea.

We also hope our tech team will allow us to feature user reviews as well. And I have a bunch of ideas on that as well. More on that soon...

And yes, we will still be sending the gift certificates for past winners of Vox Pop in this year. They will be sent as soon as we are able. In fact, that's my first priority.

So for now, we will feature your editorials that have been dangling about this month without any Vox Pop coverage. (Just in case, you can PM me if you don't wish your editorials be a Vox Pop entry.)

It's all good with the no prizes, since $100 a month can seriously take its toll. I would love to see community reviews being featured though, that would definitely get me going more on those!

I don't mind too much if vox pox doesn't go for prizes for a while. Some of the blogs were very thought provoking and I'm sure people will continue to keep writing as such.

So that one month (March I believe) TheDiesel and I were the only submitters and it was announced the first vox pop winner for the month of April will receive the other 25 U.S. Dollars (or equal to Amazon.com), So which leads to my question. Who won during that month, and do we still get the prizes? I don't want to be a dick, but I would appreciate our prize. Also, I won't mind writing blogs and having posted on the homepage without prizes, but I still want to know if I get 25 of 50$ for that month.

I'm gonna write a blog about these blogs and then you can put it up as one of the hiatus-time blogs.

@UghRochester: We will give out prizes for those in January through April, which we have unfortunately yet to send out due to reasons I think you all can figure out. But know that all gift certificates will be mailed... eventually.

I don't mind the lack of prizes, I never cared for it anyway, and I do hope you start putting reviews up in circulation, that would be fun to see.

I love to read the vox pop and the user reviews. I know i may sound like a jerk but i don't really care for a price, just as long as i can read them (or write them... hey one day... when my feet get dry or something). But by no mean do i not want a contest! and yes, post them reviews! Rewrite the rule (or at least post it) and still make it a feature (front page? with a special "article cover art"? podcast interview? some sugar and a hug by duke?... ok maybe that last one's too much), It'll attract the crowd i tell you, Just remember to give a spotlight to those who deserve it. You be surprised on how that can make a person proud for life! Changing subject, i rate this blog 2 star cause there's not enough rhymes and i can't feel your feeling. What happen dude! you used to be cool now you're a sell out to the MAN! Put some heart into it next time!

Just to throw in my two cents, I like the Vox Pop. I don't follow it 100% of the time, but once in a while one article will catch my eye and I'll usually enjoy them. I hope they come back in some way shape or form. I've never written one myself, but I've been meaning to for quite some time now. The Prize was never a motivating factor though for me personally. I just wanted A) To be able to speak my mind and have people read/respond and B) Possibly having the pride of being chosen to go on the home page if I was any good. I can't speak for anyone else but for me Pride > Prize.

Also I have an idea for prizes, Instead of giving out 100$ per month, why not change the prizes to something completely random, like the way Blake's Mystery Game gives out prizes. That way the budget is cut, and people will get a surprise. If not, oh well it's still great having a blog entry featured on the homepage.

Well to be fair, the Amazon cards helped me pay for grad school books...but I see the point to the baubles as well.

@truncheon5000...Some maybe, but I find in to be less costly than the Amazon GCs. Some prizes for Blake's Mystery Game prizes awesome, but could be purchased less than $10.00. Sometimes the prizes would be considered expensive in my area, like the autographed poster of The Conduit I received from BMG. Some prizes are tchotchkes like you have said and have little value. I'm hoping this idea is a great option instead of closing out prizes all together. Like I said previously, I don't mind getting any prizes (expcept for that month I first won) and I'm willing to write more blog entries just as long as it has a chance to be featured on GR's homepage.
