After all these years, and growing up with Windows 3.1, I have seen an entire evolution of computers and software. Touch screens and large resolutions were a pipe dream just 15 years ago. Now it's the norm. Going from a Packard Bell (yes, before HP) that couldn't run 3D Ultra Mini...

Xbox Live's New Gamertag option
Posted on Friday, March 5 2010 @ 23:12:41 PST

In case you haven’t heard. Xbox Live now has a feature in which you’re allowed to “express” yourself. Now expressing yourself with gamers around the world is a plus and minus on whether you’ll be friendly, or if you’ll turn to the dark side of all hatred.

The new feature allows Xbox Live users to add their; race, religion, sexual orientation, and nationality to their Xbox Live Gamertag. Allowing this feature was designed to help the Xbox Live community by sharing more about their personal selves and to interact with one another.

"Under our previous policy, some of these expressions of self identification were not allowed in Gamertags or profiles to prevent the use of these terms as insults or slurs. However we have since heard feedback from our customers that while the spirit of this approach was genuine, it inadvertently excluded a part of our Xbox Live community" -Marc Whitten: Xbox Live General Manager

The idea allowing more visible parts of your Gamertag is worth placing, as long as it’s optional. Now I know there are positive attributes about the new feature such as sharing/interaction with another user, but there are some negative parts that could put a minus on his/her Gamertag
First, racism and stereotypes are around us. If you don’t want to be insulted because of your persona, then don’t show it. I’m going to write with huge bolded capital letters for this next concern; THIS WILL NOT PREVENT SEXUAL PREDATORS! This is one of the main worries users and non-users concern about. The adding of your persona to anything interacting online is completely optional. If you want to go and get ass-raped by some creepy ass individual all because you think they seem like a great person to “play” with, then you pal is a complete dumb-ass.

The new feature should have been made when Xbox Live first came out, why it took so long? I have no idea, but I’m pretty sure something along the line, people are going to be much more than just, “Hey N00B! Suck my boomstick!”

"This update also comes hand-in-hand with increased stringency and enforcement to prevent the misuse of these terms," he added. "I truly believe that our diversity is what makes us strong: diversity in gaming and entertainment options, and diversity in the people that make up this amazing community."-Marc Whitten: Xbox Live General Manager

Pwned writes to Pwner
Posted on Thursday, January 28 2010 @ 23:14:03 PST

"As I attended the support group for pwned victims
We decided the best way to help resolve and regain our freedom
 is to face our pwners..."

Dear Pwner,

As a result of being pwned from you last week, I had the ability to grow balls and step up to pwners like yourself. Ever since you called me a; “FAG!” “NOOB!” “GLITCHER!” etc, I began to think the insults you placed in front of me was just to see how “comical” it would be for you to get someone like me upset over and online game. I’m writing you this letter to help your vocabulary, and to help you understand that these words can be more offensive than you thought.

First off, those insults you screamed in your mic can be very offensive to other gamers. You might not be aware of what they mean so I’m going to help you out. Being called a “FAG!” is not offensive to me, I’m completely straight, but it doesn’t mean the listeners aren’t straight. There are few famous celebrities that would slap your ass for calling people “FAG!” over an online game. Ellen DeGenerous, the comedian and talk show host, would probably find ways to make you understand how being called a “FAG!” would be offensive to the homosexual community.

Being called a “NOOB!” is completely childish of you to scream in the mic all because your ass was pwned by a beginner. There’s no reason for you to insult a beginner for kicking your ass in a video game, that’s completely ignorant of you to not appreciate the new players to the community. Unlike you, I would never get irritated and scream that bizarre word in the mic, no instead I would most likely wait until the end of the match and congratulate the new player in hopes he would have a positive feedback about me and who knows, I might even accept his friend request because I wouldn’t be a complete douche.

And for the word “GLITCHER!” I apologize but these are the type of players you’re just going to have to sit back and relax as they try to find bugs or “glitches” in the game. Yes they can use the glitch in a (n) advantage, but they’re also helping out the developers of the game by finding the glitches, and posting them on the internet (usually in forum boards). Not only are other players reading the information, I guarantee developers are searching and finding the information in hopes of providing a better quality to the game

I apologize for calling you offensive names, I’m supposed to share I was at a support group for players who had these certain issues happening. As a result, I was supposed to vent and help regain dignity by writing this letter to a pwner. But why do we need to call each other players these offensive and inappropriate names? I found a solution. Instead of calling me a “FAG!” Why don’t you just simply say, “DAMN IT! GREAT JOB!” Instead of calling me a “NOOB!” Just peacefully scream, “DAMN IT! GREAT JOB NEW PLAYER!” Instead of screaming “GLITCHER!” Please just simply scream, “AMAZING JOB FOR FINDING THAT GLITCH! If that player takes advantage of the glitch, just report the user for cheating.

Not only are you using those names incorrectly, you’re also violating rules. The terms/services that you agreed to in order to play online, you’re completely violating those rules and therefore the consequences could lead to you being banned from their network. I’m sure you don’t want to be banned or suspended in other way, but please for your own safety, learn a new vocabulary of insults. Video Games are great to compete in, but pwners like you ruin the whole community for everyone. So as a warning, please quit pwning people like that. Just simply go after someone else and let the competition stay glory. Thanks for reading this, sincerely,

The Pwned Victim

Guitar Hero: Van Halen Unreleased Feature
Posted on Sunday, November 1 2009 @ 11:39:08 PST

Aw screw it, let’s just Jump!   Welcome to Guitar Hero: Van Halen, you’re now going to be rocking out to another legend of rock n roll. Not only are you going to be playing the 25 epic Van Halen’s tracks, you’re going to be playing couple of Eddie’s signature solos such as “Eruption" and "Cathedral.” Other than the list of Van Halen’s songs being able to play, you’re option to play 19 other artists such as Queen, Billy Idol, Judas Priest, and so on. So let’s “Jump” into the excitement shall we. After playing Guitar Hero: Van Halen, you begin to realize what has changed? What has happen to the special features? All of these are a mystery. This mystery makes you so controversial to what make have actually been added to the game series. My god haven’t they add the option to video record so you can upload your own special video to their website? The only new feature I saw was lamer than Andy Dick’s comedy and this feature is “Eddie’s Guitar Soundboard.” This feature allows you to fool around with some of the chords Eddie has played through out the years. Nothing too proud of have been added to the game This is like having a prostitute sleep with you; no matter how much you paid for the pleasure, you’re still shameful you paid for it. I do apologize, but it’s difficult to explain how nothing was featured without using a sense of humor   Now this little feature I created wasn’t just to give the short information upon the game itself, this feature also provides you the source of how upsetting receiving the game in the mail was. Receiving the unreleased bologna couple weeks ago was a path to see how cheap and pathetic Activision is.
First they didn’t give me a decent case. They just stuck the game into cardboard “For promotion only not for resale” piece of crap that can easily be destroyed. So I didn’t lose or have my game destroyed from having it stay in this crap case. I had to create my own cover and use one of my old Xbox game case. Oh it doesn’t stop getting comical there. I was searching for my game manual. I searched package of the shipment. I looked inside that crap case, I yet to find my manual. I then looked to see if would inform me about my manual on the back of the case and sure enough I found the information. Not only do they give you a crap case, you must find a source of the internet to download the manual. Now they’re too cheap to print out a manual for you too? That’s pretty low. Sure the production of the creating of advertisements and art has to be made still, but come on you’re not going to ship me out a manual either?   Instead of playing just the melody of the songs in Guitar Hero 5, they manage to fix that situation so you can play the guitarist parts with your controller. Also whenever you hit the wrong note, you can recover faster. In the previous games (if you played on expert or hard), you recover fast, but when you hit the wrong note, you ended up skipping more notes. That part to me a great improvement for the audience behind you. They don’t have to listen to the “song screwing up” effect (I know you can lower the audio) and get disgusted. I feel this game would be great for the Van Halen fans out there. I wouldn’t recommend buying this game unless they added more. Until then, this is the same exact setup like Guitar Hero: Metallica. Just let Jamie cry and you may come out a survivor. Get ready to rock again December 22nd, 2009
