I love u mum!
Posted on Sunday, March 2 2008 @ 23:32:48 Eastern

My mum was the 1st person to introduce the world of console gaming to me. She bought for my birthday a Genesis way back in 1989 with Sonic and Altered Beast. Mind you $200 then was a princely sum to pay and the household was set a few weeks back. The funny thing was I never asked or whined for it. In fact, I was saving $0.50 a day just so I could buy it myself (even though slow, I'd make that amount sooner or later). Just goes to show how much mum loves me. I still remember the day when she helped me set everything up and even taught me the mechanics of the aforementioned games. You're too sweet mum! We'd adventure together through the jungles of Quackshot and slice each other (with much gore) in Mortal Kombat. Baddies stood no chance when she was Blaze and me, Axel, romped Streets of Rage where she oft called the police cars haha!

Fast forward to present time, I've bought game systems on my own (with my own money of course) after Genesis. I miss those days when she'd be with me at the local gamestore pestering the sales assistant about the games we're buying and whether we could reserve 1 before we could afford it. I miss those days when she would be beside me telling me to get that power-up, kill that bald-guy, watch out for that spikes. I miss my 1st gaming buddy. I miss my mum. Mum, Dynasty Warriors 6 needs another player. Up for it?

Yeah, I used to play Mario Kart with my mom all the time, now it's most likely she's play Wii Sports with me. I think ever since I wanted her to play Rampage with me, she kinda got turned off to games. And DW3 might need another player, but not really DW6, unless you mean Chang Ban on Shu forces.

I had a very similar experience with my Mom. Before we could afford a SNES we would go to our local video store and rent the system for the weekend. Eventually we saved up and she bought me the system. I will never forget the hours we spent trying to beat super mario world or if I'd come down late at night (like 10pm) I'd see her trying to beat that next level. I don't think she ever got into another game after that but those were amazing times

Makes me remember the good old days when I'd play video games with my Dad. I'll forever miss those days, since he's not around anymore, but I'll always remember him and our time together fondly.

For me, my parents always made a huge deal and complained themselves when giving video game presents. It was like a big cookie being waved in front of a hungry dog and they enjoyed the torment. My parents were so old fashioned, they expected us to go outside and play with sticks ALL THE TIME.
