After all these years, and growing up with Windows 3.1, I have seen an entire evolution of computers and software. Touch screens and large resolutions were a pipe dream just 15 years ago. Now it's the norm. Going from a Packard Bell (yes, before HP) that couldn't run 3D Ultra Mini...

Bunker Defence
Posted on Wednesday, January 20 2010 @ 04:59:45 PST

OK, glad to be back from the flu. Well when I first saw this game I thought ''Awww, not another generic shooting tower defence game''. I was wrong. This game is hardcore. It is extremely challanging, and with everything going on, it is also very tense. Not for the faint of heart.

You are in a generic position in the middle of the screen, and shoot with your mouse. You can buy various upgrades to increse turning speed, health, bonuses and several weapons. The bonuses are pretty well rounded, only lasting long enough to juuust get you out of a tight spot, and not overpowered to make things too easy. Unfortunantly, un-upgraded, the bombs are a bit of a letdown with a extremely small and useless blast area and pitiful damage, the shield only lasts for 3 seconds, the health pack only heals thiis much [  ] of your health and the slowdown isnt worth the time you waste going to activate it.

As you kill enemies, bonuses drop randomly, meaning if youre lucky, lots of bonuses drop in tight spots, making life easier for you. Unfortunantly that is usually not the case. The tight spots are tight, meaning that you are being surrounded by 10+ tough enemies at once. The suspense is definantly here, and there is no hand holding, with a quick 5 second toturial and off you go. There are lots of explosions, guns, and mayhem here, so as I said before, dont go there if youre a wuss.

This game is very hard, the diffuculty curve is steep, and I will include a stratergy guide for those who cant get past level one.

First off, buy upgrades for health and shield powerups level one, so you wont die so easily in tight spots, and upgrade your bunker twice. Buy each gun in order, they're purposefully in that order so it will be easier for you, and even though it says machine gun is less power than rocket launches, its actually all about DPS (damage per second) so its much more powerful. Save your money, so you can buy an upgrade for your bunker at all times. When you are sure to die, with several tough enemies and low on health, buy the upgrade, it will let you last longer and also refill your health for free. After that, just buy upgrades for health pack and shield and maybe others, and buy guns, and youre set!

+ Challanging but not impossible
Balanced powerups
Easy to understand controls
Tense, mayhem areas
A bit generic
