The sequel to the original Command & Conquer, Red Alert actually takes place in the present. Someone has gone back in time to kill Hitler before he starts World War II. Having succeeded, the balance of power shifts, causing what was the Cold War to become a very hot one. Although the plot needs work, all the strategy is there. Play as either the Communists or the equivilent of NATO.
