ZombiU Tips and Tricks Guide

- Tread carefully

It goes without saying that ZombiU punishes you if you move too fast. In order to avoid situations where you have to deal with an overwhelming amount of zombies, which almost always leads to death, try to always move through the game world carefully. This means checking corners and only running when necessary.

- Always have an escape route

While progressing through each zone make sure that you have a direction to run safely if needed. There are many situations where the odds will be against you, and the best way to deal with it is to run away and fight on your terms.

- Scan your environment

Your prepper pad is arguably your best friend. If you use it every time you enter a new room you can mark infected, see hidden items, and sometimes even find door codes.

- Lure one zombie at a time

While some situations will make this impossible, learning how to aggravate a single zombie before luring it into a narrow corridor is always the safest way to dispose of foes. You can use the flashlight or walking into a zombie’s vision to alert it of your presence.

- Plan B: Push

Sometimes you might miss with your cricket bat, or a zombie will attack you out of nowhere, and that’s what pushing is for. Press ZR with any weapon equipped to push a zombie away. You can also use this to direct zombies into a corner before you run, or even push them into a fire.

- Use your radar frequently

Nothing beats planning ahead, and your radar can give you an edge. At times you can use it to avoid groups of zombies altogether, or setup a trap with your mines.

- Carry a big gun

Sometimes running isn’t an option and your only way of surviving is to pull out your trusty firearm. Having the pistol and a larger gun in your inventory makes you a force to reckon with, and the more ammunition the merrier.

- Store some extras in the safe

You’re bound to die, so learning how to leave extras in the safe for your next character is a worthwhile investment. This means extra flares, grenades, and weapons that don’t fit into your main loadout.

- Turn off your flashlight to stealth

Believe it or not, the zombies only notice you if you walk into their cone of vision or shine a flashlight on them. There are situations where you can creep your way behind a zombie to avoid combat, but only if your flashlight is off.

- Last but not least: Learn from your mistakes

Dying isn’t fun in ZombiU, and the run back is an opportunity to lament in your failure… or think about how you’ll deal with the situation the second time. As overwhelming as many of the encounters may be, they’re all manageable with the right execution. Try to understand why you die, and when you get back to where you left off take out your previous character and collect its inventory to let off some steam.
