Best of E3 2012 Awards

Best of E3 2012 Awards Cont.

Dishonored
Publisher: Bethesda
Developer: Arkane Studios
Release Date: October 9, 2012

Excerpt: Innovation is scarce, even among new IPs, and everyone knows that people may clamor for innovation but they're not easily impressed. Dishonored won't have that problem. It is now one of this editor's most anticipated games for when it releases some time later this year.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Publisher: Konami
Developer: Platinum Games
Release Date: Early 2013

Excerpt: Platinum Games gives the player the experience of being the Raiden of the cinematics in Metal Gear Solid 4, and puts that speed and agility in the hands of the player. It feels like that's a success from this early view. This does mean that, yes, this is not the subtle stealth espionage action of Metal Gears of the past, but that's why they dropped the "Solid" and put "Rising" in its place.

Star Wars 1313
Publisher: LucasArts
Developer: LucasArts
Release Date: TBA

Excerpt: Following our behind-closed-doors demo of Star Wars 1313, we knew that we just saw a Next Generation game. Demoed on a PC, 1313 was the troll of E3 2012.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
Publisher: Namco Bandai
Developer: Level-5, Studio Ghibli
Release Date: January 22, 2013

Excerpt: For a comparative description, Ni No Kuni is somewhere between Level 5's Rogue Galaxy and Dragon Quest VIII, with more than just a touch of Pokémon.

Persona 4: Arena
Publisher: Atlus
Developer: Arc System Works
Release Date: August 7, 2012

Excerpt: It's not exactly a traditional SMT title, but Arena played exactly how it looks: all at once smooth, classic, clean and beautiful. The sprites are detailed down to the pixel and simply glide across the screen. This is definitely a title to watch out for.

Injustice looks awesome! I was quite weary, because of what NetherRealm did with MK VS DC. Stars Wars:1313 looks good too. I'm hoping they saw the flaws in Star Wars: Bounty Hunter to give this type of role a try again.

I think that was just left on the list. We're really excited for that title as well, but holy **** was it hard to find at E3.

Yeah, I kept looking for a preview for it here on GR, then went looking elsewhere and couldn't find much. I just thought since it did have the best presentation and trailer.....

I had the appointment with THQ and they weren't showing it off at their booth. Perhaps they showed it earlier, but the overall coverage for the game has been rather thin and deliberate at the moment.

I think it was in Microsoft's booth on the show floor for like... 5 minutes. We really didn't see it anywhere aside from the trailer during the press conference. I wish we had. I would've preview'd the **** out of it.

What, no black ops 2? You mean the same formulaic game that's come out for the past 5 years isn't one of the most anticipated games for 2012?

Heh. I got a booth tour at Activision, and I have to say that the normal campaign missions were standard Call of Duty, but the Strike Force missions actually were innovative. You can play as any unit you put on the battlefield, or direct the whole mission from Overstrike like an RTS.

Are they just tacked on? That's another question.

Dishonored, Resident Evil 6, Star Wars 1313, and Borderlands 2 are mostly what have my panties in a bunch from E3. I am extremely intrigued by Injustice though. I'd like to see more.

I hope Bethesda isn't rushing this DLC like they did with everything Fallout: New Vegas related.

Got high hopes for this... was hoping to see a demo cuz the trailer didn't exactly "wow" me

Rushing this DLC? Batman has it's GOTY edition out already. Dawnguard, the first piece of DLC for Skyrim, isn't even released yet. I think that Bethesda has stolen a page out of Blizzard's playbook.

No doubt but Harley Quinn's revenge was over in 2 hours.

Bethesda's DLCs are always very robust. The development due diligence is different for every game and from what I have observed, when Bethesda rushes, no matter what the time interval is, its bad news bears

I wish game companies would stop finding ways to part me from my money. So far I'm almost certainly going to be buying Dishonored, AC3, Borderlands2, Last of Us, and Tomb Raider. I'm interested in 1313, but after seeing the video, I'm fairly convinced I'll be buying a new console before I can play it.

Gravity Rush wasn't at E3? It was released just like a week after the show so I thought it would be there.

In other news, Ni no Kuni is the best JRPG of the last decade.

It was there, but with a week until release it wasn't in need of an award for attention.

just checked the EBGames website here down under (which, i just realised is part of GameStop) and it says that the WiiU will be $599 AUD. didn't say that it was an estimated price, but i guess it may as well be.

sorry bout the un-E3 related comment, but this might be helpful for anyone wondering about the WiiU price.

It had a fairly lackluster showing AT E3. Probably because it was revealed so far in advance of the show. If it debuted at E3 we'd probably be singing a different tune.

Actually, this did get a nomination by Jonathan. But we had to cap the awards at some point. We did deliberate over it, and it was a close call - so know that it was indeed very close to the impact of these games here.

Planet side 2 was one of my favorite games at the show, but it didn't have the 'wow' factor. It's definitely a game worth looking forward to, though.

I loved Metal Gear Solid Rising (I wrote the glowing preview for it after all) but looking back what impressed me the most was Book of Spells. It just felt so charming, and felt so effortless to interact with the book.
