Tell GR: Buy, Try, or Die? [January 2013]

Posted on Wednesday, January 2 @ 14:55:36 Eastern by

The holiday break is over, and some of us at Game Revolution are still in hibernation mode. *grumble, grumble* So luckily, the video game publishers were smart to keep this month light enough for us to awaken from our collective slumber, hopefully in time for the last half of this month where both DmC: Devil May Cry and Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch marks the beginning of a fantastic release list in 2013.

No, but really, there's not much going this month. I mean, I thought about putting in Sims 3 Content Packs to puff up the list, but I thought better of it. The lack of games this month will help our wallets recover anyway, which have been thoroughly thrashed on Christmas.

1/04/13 Crusader Kings II: The Republic (PC, Mac)
1/05/13 Wii U External HD 320GB (PDP)
1/08/13 Anarchy Reigns (X360, PS3)

I'm sorry I must do this to you, but thumbs down. Not because I disagree with your list, but because I won't allow you to win another week of... (rhymes with week, you'll see soon)

Agreed. Though the more I think about it, I may have to kill off DmC as well. The small sample that I played didn't impress me.

If anyone is thinking about DMC for PS3, I suggest you consider the "DIE" option. Ninja Theory's last game, Enslaved, ran at like 15-20 FPS most of the time on PS3, and the demo of DMC suggests it'll run like junk too. I think NT makes some worthwhile games, though, so that's why I already have DMC for PC paid for in full already...

On Consoles it's locked at 30FPS.

Ni No Kuni - Buy (but not right away... I'm slaving over a hot console day in and day out and don't have time or money to add to the list just yet)

Fuck the rest, except maybe Anarchy Reigns, which I'll Try.

Ni No Kuni is a the only obvious buy. Anarchy Reigns is compelling because it's $30 dollars and I love Platinum Games. EDF 2012 I'm sure I will buy because I eat up everything Vita. DMC is probably a buy as long as you aren't one of the crazies that think it sucks just because they changed Dante.

I might go buy a Vita just for EDF 2017. And I'll try Anarchy Reigns. Buy Borderlands 2 Sir Hammerlock Big Game Hunt. Don't care for the rest.

Buy! - Crusader Kings II: The Republic (PC, Mac)
Buy! - Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (PS3)
Try! - Wii U External HD 320GB (PDP)
    Try - ShootMania Storm (PC)
Try - Strike Suit Zero (PC)
Try - Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable (Vita)
Try- DmC: Devil May Cry (X360,PS3)
    Die - Painkiller: Hell & Damnation (X360, PS3)

Good month for PC, The Republic looks to add a great component to CK2. Strike Suit Zero looks fantastic, but I have my reservations for some reason. I regret to this day missing the beta for ShootMania, looks to bring back a Quake Arena feel. If I had a Vita I would probably be all over EDF 2017. DmC - I just don't know. The series needed a reboot, but did it really need more games?

Oh and try a Wii U HD. If you can somehow do this you win.
