How to Pick the Right Cell Phone For a Holiday Gift

How to pick the right cell phone to make for a perfect holiday gift.

The one gift that’s on everyone’s wish list this holiday season, is cell phones. Sure they’re great for making phone calls, but it’s the additional features that today’s cell phones include that put them at top of the list. But with so many different cell phones and available features, how do you choose what’s right for you or your loved ones? We’ll go over some of the more popular features seen in phones for this holiday.

Text Messaging - Everybody texts. So you need to find a phone that has a comfortable, easy-to-use keyboard. Some models have sliding QWERTY keyboards, some have touch screen keyboards, many even use the letters on traditional phone layouts to do their texting.

Email - There’s no better way to manage your inbox while on the go than your cell-phone. Higher end phones have “push” email while others use proprietary services to get the job done.

Camera - This used to be a much sought-after feature on phones, but these days they’re such commonplace you shouldn’t find too many phone options without a camera. Instead look for higher mega-pixel offerings or cameras that take video footage as well. Some of the more expensive phones even can capture HD video.

Social Networking - Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter are easily accessible by many cell-phones. Whether this is done via the web or via an app depends on the phone.

Games - This is by far the most fun feature on our phones. Big name franchises and game developers are building their best titles specifically for cell-phones and many of them closely mimic the experience that can be had on home consoles.

Web-browsing - Having a cell-phone and being instantly able to access the web goes hand-and-hand these days. Many phones even offer Flash-enabled web-browsers, allowing you to get the full world wide web experience.

Apps - Whatever it is, there’s an app for that. Apps offer easy access to a massive variety of services, games, features and more. Most are designed around passing time, having fun or making you more productive.

With so many options to choose from, our best advice is to do ample research online and even try a few phones out in person to see what best suits you or your loved one’s needs. Make sure they can customize it and make it their own. For example, the LG Dlite has a unique LED screen on the exterior of the phone that users can customize with wallpapers, sounds and more. Whatever you go with, we’re sure they will appreciate the gesture, and more importantly, the phone.
