Which PS4 Concepts Will Be Closest To The Real Thing?

Posted on Tuesday, February 19 @ 16:23:51 Eastern by
Ever since the Playstation 3 arrived, it's been fun speculating what the PlayStation 4 might look like. Perhaps Sony's mock ad for the Playstation 9 has deceived us with illusions of grandeur, particularly when you look at the fan concepts for the PlayStation 4 below, but maybe (just maybe) one of these is close to the truth.

We already have several alleged pics of the PlayStation 4 controller, so that removes some of the validity of the concepts below. Which do you believe are more likely than the others?

Concept 1 - A futuristic white/plastic interface. A bit farfetched?

Concept 2 - This imagines the PS4 block to be a rounded tower. Can it be laid flat?

Concept 3 - Another futuristic Tron-esque take on the PlayStation 4. Stands up more like a Wii.

Concept 4 - The controller looks far too dubious, but the rounded console with a flat surface looks neat.

Concept 5 - The controller is among the closest to the alleged controller. An interesting profile for the console.

Concept 6 - Both console and controller are rather conservative, no?

Concept 7 - Much like Concept 1, except a black version and also a more landscape-oriented console.

Concept 8 - Will Sony abandon their black motif for blood red?

Concept 9 - Another silly controller and a discus PS4 with which I can throw this away.

Concept LOL - I like my games lightly toasted.

Concept LOL 2 - Well, at least it's got multiplayer...

Haha, hopefully the real-deal is better than these. They definitely LOOK like fan-made mock ups, but I have soft spot in my heart for the 4xPS1 design.

The last one caught me off guard with laughs. But I still favor the toaster design the most. I mean how many of us dont need help with our cooking?

If rumors hold true, since it uses an APU instead of a dedicated GPU it might be significantly smaller than what people are expecting.

The LOL 2 concept reminds me of that one guy who said the Wii was 2 Gamecubes duct tapped together.

Haven't seen a bunch of those. Awesome round-up.

I've generally preferred Sony's forms over Microsoft's or Nintendo's. Here's to hoping they stay black and sleek... 6 is probably closest.

I think concept 5 is probably the most accurate sony form, but I really like concept 3, it looks like a futuristic gaming PC.

PS4 is going to be a slightly sleeker version of the PS3 (which is a round version of the PS2 with obvious hardware upgrades). If history holds true, the first generation will be a beast, and then a few years later a "slim" model will make its way onto the shelves.

None of this has anything to do with what the console will look like but one thing I'd be surprised anout is a lack of 4K output on the PS4. I doubt it would be the standard but with Sony being, as far as I know, the first in making 4K cinema available in your home (for 20k no less) it wouldn't surprise me to see the PS4 supporting 4K resolution, despite the fact it will likely be another year or two before it's affordable for the masses.

I'd take any of these fan made mock-ups over the real Playstion 4 - or 3 for that matter.

At least these have Backwards Compatibility.

I dig Concept 7, though it's impractical and would look really dumb on a wooden shelf.
