Pokemon Let’s Go Gold and Silver – Can We Expect a Release Date?

Given the huge success of Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, it’s only natural to assume that Pokemon Let’s Go Gold and Silver could be on the way. In fact, there are several things in Pokemon Let’s Go that actually imply that this possibility could be realized in the future. Pokemon Gold and Silver were ambitious games that combined Kanto with a brand new region, Johto, meaning that a Let’s Go remake could feature 16 Gyms and two Pokemon Leagues. Also, the addition of the National Pokedex to the Gen 2 games means that there could be another 100 Pokemon for ambitious trainers to catch, which would lend nicely to Let’s Go‘s catch ’em all” basis. Here’s everything you need to know about Pokemon Let’s Go Gold and Silver.

Can We Expect a Pokemon Let’s Go Gold and Silver Release Date?

Although there hasn’t been an official release date confirmed for Pokemon Let’s Go Gold and Silver, a thoughtful Reddit post recently drew attention to a very minor detail in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee that has major implications for future Pokemon games.

After defeating Sabrina, Saffron City’s Psychic-type Gym Leader, for a second time, she’ll say the following to you:

“I wont encounter a trainer like you for around another three years.”

Sabrina is known for having psychic powers since she was a child. The above statement carries particular weight due to the fact that she has the gift of foresight. What’s the significance of three years, though?

Generation 2, the Generation instigated by Pokemon Gold and Silver, took place three years after the events of the original Gen 1 games. As mentioned in the opening paragraph, players can return to Kanto in Gen 2 after they’ve beaten the Pokemon League in Johto. Therefore, you battle Sabrina in Gen 2, three years after your character from Gen 1 battles her in Pokemon Blue, Red, Yellow, Leaf Green, Fire Red, and most recently—Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee.

Is Pokemon Let’s Go Gold and Silver Coming?

The above reference to the potential for Pokemon Let’s Go Gold and Silver is of course a minor one, but it seems so perfectly fitting that it couldn’t possibly mean anything else. I previously thought that Gen 2 Pokemon would eventually come to Pokemon Let’s Go purely because Lance leads with a Seadra in the Elite Four as opposed to his usual Gyarados. Seadra is a cool Pokemon, but it’s not previous Elite Four-Champion tier. Kingdra is, though.

In our Pokemon Let’s Go DLC guide, we speculated on additional content that could come to Let’s Go in the near future. The two main points of interest in this area of speculation are the Sevii Islands from Leaf Green and Fire Red and incorporating Pokemon from future generations. When asked if DLC was a possibility, game director Junichi Masuda said “Not right now … We’ll see it’s reception among all the players.” Given the almost unanimous positive reception exhibited by critics and fans alike, maybe “not right now” will become “well, maybe.”

Or, better yet, Nintendo and Game Freak will forego DLC for Let’s Go in favor of Pokemon Let’s Go Gold and Silver. It’s important to note that Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee aren’t called Let’s Go Red and Blue, though, so who would the mascots be for Gold and Silver?

Pokemon Let’s Go Gold and SilverLet’s Go… Who?

If Pokemon Let’s Go Gold and Silver were to designate mascots, which Pokemon do you reckon they would be? There has been a lot of noise online about Togepi and Marill, the former of which I could definitely see happening. Togepi is a pseudo-Pikachu in the anime anyway, given its huge amount of screen time alongside Misty.

Marill, though? I’m a big fan, but the Water typing makes it seem unlikely in my eyes. I’d definitely be happy with Marill, and I can’t think of a better Pokemon for the role personally, but it just doesn’t seem all too likely. It definitely won’t be the starters, as you’ll likely be able to encounter those the same way you do in Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee—as rare spawns or as a reward for fulfilling certain in-game objectives.

Mareep could be an interesting one, but Mareep happens to be a Pokemon with a three-tier evolutionary scale. It’s highly unlikely that the first form of what eventually becomes Ampharos would be kept from evolving, so this too is a problematic guess, albeit an educated one. Honestly, it could very well be Marill.

If you have any ideas of what the Pokemon Let’s Go Gold and Silver mascot Pokemon could be, share them in the comments section with an explanation as to why they would be great for the role. Togepi is almost set in stone if these games do happen, but the other slot is up for grabs.

Pokemon Let’s Go Gold and Silver haven’t gotten a release date as of yet, but Sabrina’s line, combined with Masuda’s comments on critical reception, really do align and imply that these games could become a reality in the near future. True, Heart Gold and Soul Silver came out recently enough, but Let’s Go offered an entire new take on the world of Pokemon. Despite being another remake, Pokemon Let’s Go Gold and Silver—or Togepi and TBD—could well become an actual thing. Fans loved Let’s Go, so there’s no reason not to Let’s Go…ld and Silver.
