Apex Legends Memory Could Not Be Read Error | Is there a fix?

While many of us are enjoying Apex Legends, there are plenty of other players complaining about seemingly endless bugs, glitches, and errors. One such error is the Apex Legends memory could not be read error. Affecting only those playing the game on Windows PC, the error is an annoying one. If you’re after a fix for the memory error in Apex Legends, you’ve come to the right place.

What is the Apex Legends Memory Could Not Be Read Error?

Apex Legends Memory Could Not Be Read Error

As stated above, the “memory could not be read error” is affecting only those of you who are playing Apex Legends on Windows PCs. Essentially, the game is unable to read your PCs memory. This is seemingly a bug within the game’s coding that seems to affect almost any version of the Windows operating system, but you’re more likely to receive the message if you’re using Windows 7 or 8.

After a little while of playing the game, it appears to stop and crash for many users with the “memory could not be read” error message appearing. There is, however, something of a fix, despite the issue not having yet been acknowledged by the developers. To make matters more complicated, there are multiple different error numbers involved here. The most common appears to be 0x00000000, however.

Apex Legends Memory Could Not Be Read Error | Fix

Apex Legends Memory Could Not Be Read Error

Unfortunately, there is not yet an official fix for the memory could not be read error in Apex Legends. However, Reddit user u/Koopak99 has posted a detailed list of potential fixes for the error. Unfortunately again, none of the fixes listed in the thread appear to work for everyone. Either players have seen a reduction in the number of times they see the error message or little to no change.

WINDOWS 8.1

Even so, if you’re experiencing the error a lot, you will want to get rid of it as much as possible. For those of you playing on Windows 8.1, you will want to install both of the KB3173424 and KB3172614 updates. This should help reduce the number of times your game crashes, at least.

Windows 7

For those of you playing the game on Windows 7, the fix isn’t quite so simple. You will need to edit the game’s registry manually. First, choose to play the game in administrator mode. To do this, you will need to follow these steps, as per u/Koopak99:

“Guide to manual registry edit: ([quotation marks] are for highlighting, do not type them)

  • Open the start menu and type “regedit” this should bring up regedit.exe, open it.

  • Using the side panel with drop down arrows navigate to the below location. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionImage File Execution Options.

  • Right-click the “Image File Execution Options” folder, hover over “new”, and select “Key”, enter the name “r5apex.exe”.

  • Right-click the “r5apex.exe” folder, hover over “new”, and select “Key”, enter the name “PerfOptions”

  • Highlight “PerfOptions” on the left, in the white space in the right field, right click, hover over “new” and select “DWORD (32-bit) Value”, Enter “CpuPriorityClass” for the name.

  • Double click the new “CpuPriorityClass” DWORD you created and in the new window ensure that the Base is set to Hexadecimal, then set the Value to “3”.

  • Close Regedit.”

Windows 10

Windows 10 players shouldn’t be encountering the error after its latest updates. If you are though, please head over to the official Apex Legends support forums and ask for help. Game developers and EA admins can be quite quick to respond.

Hopefully EA and Respawn can get an official fix out for the Apex Legends “memory could not be read” error soon. As stated above, trying everything we’ve said might not work entirely, though it will likely just make the error appear less often than it did before.
