Apex Legends player count needs more Gibraltar

Apex Legends player count hits 25 million over the weekend

Apex Legends player count hits over 25 million unique players in just under a week. Respawn Entertainment’s Vince Zampella announced the news today alongside an update on the game, future plans, and news that the battle royale reached over 2 million concurrent players at one point.

Respawn’s CEO Zampella announced the milestone earlier on Monday morning. The free-to-play battle royale game launched just a week ago on February 4 as a surprise release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. In a blog on EA’s website, Zampella shared some more news and updates on the game.

Zampella announced the Twitch Rivals Apex Legends Challenge, which is set for February 12 and February 19. The event will see 48 Twitch streamers competing live in-game. Respawn plans to co-stream the entire challenge alongside the as-yet-unnamed streamers. A host of Valentine’s Day skins and loot will be coming to Apex Legends later this week. Zampella reiterated that the game’s first season will kick off in March, bringing with it their battle pass system, new legends, weapons, and cosmetics.

In its first 48 hours available, Apex Legends player count had already reached 2.5 million with over half a million concurrent players. By Thursday, more than 10 million people had played the battle royale game. Throughout the week, Apex Legends garnered more viewers than Fortnite on Twitch. The game has quickly built a following, and its developers want to harness the community to ensure the game continues to succeed. Zampella said as much in his recent blog about the game.

“Our goal is to build this game with you, our community so keep giving us your feedback because we really are listening,” he said.

Apex Legends is the latest game in Respawn’s Titanfall universe. The battle royale game takes place roughly 30 years after Titanfall 2, Respawn’s 2016 first-person shooter. Apex Legends mixes hero characters like those of Overwatch with the gunplay of Titanfall and a battle royale setup similar to Call of Duty‘s Blackout mode.
