The Daily Vote | Will you buy the PS5 on launch day?

We’ve received fresh details about the PS5 today, with Sony confirming details regarding its specs, its backwards compatibility with the PS4, and even hinting that Death Stranding could receive a two-platform release. It all sounds very exciting, but has it convinced you to pick up a PlayStation 5 on launch day?

In today’s The Daily Vote, we want to know if you’re going to buy a PS5 on the day of its release, or if you’re not interested in Sony’s upcoming console. As always, VOTE on your choice in the Twitter poll below, and we’ll reveal the winner in tomorrow’s Daily Vote!

Paul Tamburro, executive editor: “Yes, absolutely. I know that buying a console at launch is when you’re naturally going to get the least amount of value for your money, but this is my job so I’ll be pre-ordering it. Honestly, even if this wasn’t my job, I’d probably still pre-order it, because I must have all the shiny new toys immediately otherwise I’ll die.”

Jason Faulkner, senior editor: “I’ll have it pre-ordered. It’s kind of unavoidable since a big part of my work is reviewing/writing guides on the latest games. I’m shooting myself in the foot if I don’t get one on launch day. If it wasn’t for work, then it would really depend on what the launch lineup is.”

Mack Ashworth, lead editor: “I’ll pre-order it as soon as possible, but may cancel before launch. I think the biggest factors will be the price tag and any must-play PS5 exclusives. Owning a PS5 from the get-go would obviously be advantageous for the work I do here, but if there aren’t any killer exclusives, then I’ll just play the games on PC. Even with a “super SSD” powering the PS5, it’s all about the software when it comes to selling console hardware.”

Bradley Russell, news editor: “I’ll need to see the games first. How many of us have been stung by a piss-weak launch filled with Ryses and Lairs? I’m not overly confident we’ll have anything great this time either. Death Stranding might get a simultaneous PS5 launch if we’re lucky, but I’m expecting everything else to be filled up with ports and live-service games that will have carried over from the death throes of the PS4.”

Michael Leri, features editor: “I’ll buy it sight unseen. Cerny and Sony’s solid work with the PS4 gives me confidence that the PS5 will be a great machine. It all sounds promising and I can’t wait to see what they have in store. Just launch it with an Ape Escape game, please.”
