Days Gone Afraid of a Little Competition Bug

Days Gone Afraid of a Little Competition Bug | Can I return the silicate to Sarah?

Ever since the latest Days Gone update, many of you have been complaining about a story-ending bug: The Days Gone Afraid of a Little Competition bug. The return the silicate to Sarah story mission in Days Gone appears to be broken, not allowing players to continue the story from that point. The locked door bug is an annoying one, for sure. Read on to see if there is a Days Gone Afraid of a Little Competition bug fix.

Days Gone Afraid of a Little Competition Bug | What’s the problem?

Days Gone Afraid of a Little Competition Bug

As stated above, it appears as though the Afraid of a Little Competition story mission in Days Gone is broken. Many of you have taken to Reddit and Twitter to air your frustrations at not being able to complete the game. No one likes a broken story mission.

Essentially, since the latest Days Gone update, many of you have been unable to complete the game. Simply put, the Afraid of a Little Competition story mission cannot be completed. It appears as though you can play through the entirety of the mission, which involves locating and bringing back a bag of silicate to Sarah on Wizard Island.

The trouble is, when you go back to Wizard Island, the door you need to go through in order to give the silicate to Sarah is locked. No matter how many times you try it, that door just won’t budge. If you can’t give Sarah the silicate, you cannot complete the mission and therefore, the game.

Days Gone Afraid of a Little Competition Bug Fix

Days Gone Afraid of a Little Competition Bug

Thankfully, there are a handful of general fixes that might just fix the story bug for you. One such fix that might work for you is rebuilding your PS4’s database after loading up the save closest to before you can start the Afraid of a Little Competition mission.

To do this, follow these steps:

  • Turn on Days Gone
  • Load up your closest save to before you can start the Afraid of a Little Competition mission
  • Once it has loaded, close the game down and turn off your PS4
  • Boot your PS4 into Safe Mode (hold the console’s power button until you hear it beep twice)
  • Choose to Rebuild Database
  • After this is all done, load up the same save file that you loaded for the first step

Hopefully, this method should work for you. There are no guarantees, however. You could, if you prefer, try to reload an old save file.

Again, we’d recommend loading up the latest save file before you were given access to the Afraid of a Little Competition mission. Simply reloading into an older save file and replaying through the mission again could well fix it. Of course, for anyone who has gone on and completed a load of map activities while waiting for a fix to be released via an update, neither of these methods are particularly worthwhile.

If these fixes don’t work, however (as they haven’t for some), you are simply going to have to wait for a fix via a future Days Gone update. Fingers crossed the bug is fixed for good in the next Days Gone update. For now, we’d recommend waiting for an update, rather than potentially messing your PS4 up via database rebuilding.
