Nintendo eShop now Lets you use Gold Points to Make Purchases

Hold onto your hats everyone, because from today the Nintendo eShop now lets you use Gold Points to purchase and add digital version’s of games to your console’s library! Now you won’t have to fork out all of your hard-earned cash in order to grab the games you want, instead, with each purchase you make you’ll be earning points that’ll help you on your spending in a way that’s very similar to having a loyalty card.

How it works (via Nintendo) is pretty simple: with each purchase you make on a digital game in the Nintendo eShop, you’ll earn Gold Points worth up to 5% of what you paid! What’s more, saving up will mean later on you get to spend those points and get a hefty discount or, depending on how many points you have, completely free! Pretty neat when you think of it like that, isn’t it?

Though one thing that should be kept in mind is that the Gold Points system values digital downloads over physical purchases. As said above, purchasing on the Nintendo eShop will give you 5% of what you’ve paid (a $59.99 digitally purchased game on the eShop will earn you 300 points), whereas a physical copy will only earn you a measly 1%. So be aware before you start spending your cash, folks!

Another thing to know is that Gold Points do have an expiry date, which considering your perspective, might be a complete bummer for you to read. These points are valid for up to 12 months from the time they are earned, and thus will expire at the end of the month. Though considering there are games coming out next year that you may think of saving up, this may not be the best of ideas for this new Gold Points system.

Time will tell whether the Gold Points system will be a success or failure.
