I didn't see anything on this, has anyone else played this yet? The story is really good. The gameplay is nothing to write home about, but the game as a whole is pretty tits. First time I have ever felt compelled to read a book after playing a video game. It's like a thriller/mystery that is a lot of fun to play through. It's not too long, I beat it in two sittings, probably 6-8 hours. Worth a play though. Anybody else get their hands on it? _________________ In my alter ego, I don't wet the bed. |

| I was really excited for it when it was announced back in '08... but that was in '08. I just haven't felt very compelled to get it now, although at 6-8 hours its probably worth a rent. |

Yeah, I borrowed it from a friend. It might not be worth buying, since the replay value isn't that great. Definitely should be played though. _________________ In my alter ego, I don't wet the bed. |

I played it through last week with a friend and i absolutely loved it - it is paced so well, looks good, at one point tells you what to do next through a prog rock vinyl...I loved it! I havent got the DLC or American Nightmare yet but am definitely going to. Night springs, too! SO good. If anyone hasn't played this yet then seriously, do! _________________ Mr Lebezyatnikov, who keeps abreast of modern ideas, explained the other day that in our age even pity has been outlawed by science, and that in England, where they seem to be very keen on political economy, people are already acting accordingly. |

DON'T PLAY THE DLC.
American Nightmare is fun, but it removes all the narrative value by being all about high-scores and arcade combat.
But yeah, Alan Wake is fantastic. _________________

Alan Wake is definitely not a bad game at all, but the only parts that I really liked was the setting and atmosphere. It reminded me of the awesome show Twin Peaks (if you like Alan Wake definitely check that show out). The episode layout was also pretty unique. Everything else just seemed kind of bland and repetitive to me. Combat never deviates from the basics and you will be doing it a lot, the characters are pretty stupid, the writing could have been way better (still better than most games but I was expecting more), and it just wasn't scary to me. Still not a bad game but I feel like the developers played it way too safe and the game came up a little short for me.
I've also never touched the DLC, but I might grab it when it's cheap because I hear parts of it are way better than the original game. But a lot of it is apparently God-awful, so, maybe not. _________________

By and far. This part was great! Reminded me of one of the finales in Left 4 Dead 2. _________________

It's not got the twin peaks-esque vibe that Deadly Premonition has, but I get some similarities...the diner etc. <3 dale.
I guess you're right about the combat being repetitive, guan yu, but I thought the production value was just terrific. It kept pace so well that i didn't often feel i was doing a level as much as going through a story. Also yeah the writing could have been a little better. Alan himself was a bit po faced as a man. Except when he got drunk and claimed if he wrote ten books they'd be the best ten books of the year.
Also, I really thought the poet and the muse kicked ass as a song. _________________ Mr Lebezyatnikov, who keeps abreast of modern ideas, explained the other day that in our age even pity has been outlawed by science, and that in England, where they seem to be very keen on political economy, people are already acting accordingly. |

This is one of those games that marks me regret never owning a 360. I played the game on a friend's 360 and loved it but never finished it.
And Twin Peaks was a great show, I watched it on Netflix. Pretty campy at times but so bizarre that you're intrigued. Silent Hill did a good job of capturing that feel. |
