E3: PC or rather about the lack of it
By Starling
Posted on 06/15/13
E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

Don't get too excited! It is weird and not great.

But, it's a free demo and I wanted to play last night. GL's too cool and nobody else was on.

I enjoyed it. It feels kind of like Homefront in the way you zoom into your spawn and the more consistent killstreak feed you get.

Thanks for joining me before getting town away from my arms by the evil heartless server, Used.

The best part was us struggling to join a match together for 15 minutes.

Yeah, I loved that "feature."

I played a bunch more today and had an overall better experience, but holy crap are DICE games terrible on console.

They are primarily PC right? Or at least used to making PC games over console ports?

Still, I might just join this beta to give it a test run...although I am way too busy to really go in-depth on it.

Frostbite 2.0 is their big thing and it runs like shit on the consoles.

I was let down by how the multiplayer turned out, I don't know if maybe it's just the map but the trailer made it look awesome and now I feel more excited by the singleplayer than the multiplayer. It's not terrible but at the same time I feel like it could of been more. Honestly doesn't even feel like the frostbite engine but oh well. Took a bit to get used to, saw the death screen a lot when I first started and now I'm getting the hang of how this game plays (similar to BF3). They need to fix spawning IMO, I feel like I'm always having a guy spawn right behind me or sometimes I've been spawned in the middle of a firefight (not buddy spawn but fall spawn)

If I play it at all it will be for the single player. Anybody play the campaign of the first one? That moment where your squad is completely pinned down for like ten minutes, resigning themselves to their fate, is just totally great.

Don't worry, they mostly get saved by... planes or whatever. It's still a great moment to experience. It's not exactly an original piece of drama, but it's done very well.

It's weird that you bring up the drama because I don't think any other shooter really goes for "drama" over "EXPLODEYACTION." If that's what Medal of Honor does as a rebooted series, I'll give it praise just for doing something different.

CoD 4 did it pretty well.

But that's about it.

CoD4 is still the best campaign in modern shooters, imo. The nuke, the ghillie suit level, really amazing design in that campaign. It's terrible that they kind of abandoned all that amazing work in favor of focus on multiplayer.
