Assassins Creed Odyssey Sales and sunsets.

Nearly Half of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Sales Are Digital

Ubisoft has reported incredibly strong digital Assassins Creed Odyssey sales. Nearly half of all Assassin’s Creed Odyssey sales have been through digital distribution platforms. Ubisoft reported the news in its fiscal earnings report for the first half of 2018 to 2019.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey digital sales accounted for 45 percent of the games total sales. Ubisoft reported that is up from Assassin’s Creed Origins which only about 10 percent of all sales were digital. The one-year change is massive for the company, and shows the evolving landscape of how people buy games. According to other information released by the company, overall digital sales are up 52 percent over last year. Overall digital accounts for almost 70 percent of Ubisoft’s total net bookings.

Assassins Creed Odyssey sales also beat internal expectations, while also noting it is still early in the holiday season. Other items to note is that Rainbow Six Siege has had over 40 million unique players, and For Honor is over 15 million players. There has also been a 50 percent jump in “player recurring investment” which is the term used for in-game items, DLC, season passes, subscriptions, and other digital goods. The massive jump in microtransactions and “player recurring investment” gives Ubisoft a clear growth opportunity in that direction.

Ubisoft’s push towards games-as-a-service style experiences has done well for the company, so far. A new For Honor expansion brought players back to that game and Far Cry 5 is still outperforming its predecessor. Mobile revenues for the company are also up nearly 60 percent year-over-year. Ubisoft performed far better in the first half of 2018 to 2019 than the previous year.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey brought the series to Ancient Greece, and put the player in the shoes of an exiled Spartan mercenary. Odyssey brings more RPG elements to the game with the addition of dialogue options, branching narratives, and romance. We didn’t like the game as much as last year’s Origins, but still thought it was gorgeous and fun.
