Red Dead Redemption 2 Where to Sell Gold Bars

There are loads of different ways to earn money in Red Dead Redemption 2. Hunting, fishing, and robbery are some of the most popular activities for earning cash, but every so often, players will stumble across rare and valuable Gold Bars. These puppies are worth $500 bucks a pop, but only if a proper buyer for them can be located. Fortunately, the question of where to sell Gold Bars in Red Dead 2 is simple to address.

Where to Sell Gold Bars in Red Dead Redemption 2

In Red Dead Redemption 2, Gold Bars must be sold to a Fence. Whether or not the bars were earned through legitimate activity is irrelevant; they are treated as illicit goods and must be sold as such. With that said, each Gold Bar sells for a whopping $500, which is a huge amount of money in Old West times. As a point of reference, all of the best articles of clothing come in at less than $50 each, and even the most expensive camp upgrade only clocks in at $450. Needless to say, $500 can go a long way.

Red Dead Redemption 2 where to sell Gold Bars - Fence locations

As for where to sell Gold Bars, there are four different Fences available in the game, and anyone of them will be happy to take Gold Bars off the player’s hands. One is in Saint Denis, toward the town’s eastern border, just around the corner from the town’s local Trapper. Another can be found in the Van Horn Trading Post, just off the shore of the Lannaheche River. There’s also one in the outskirts of Rhodes, a short journey north from the main part of town. Finally, there’s one more outside of the Emerald Ranch, south and slightly west of Emerald Station.

Not only will the Fence be happy to buy Gold Bars, but they’ll also be happy to help offload any other ill-gotten gains in reward for various amounts of money. It won’t be too long before players with a penchant for thievery will come to know the Fence well, especially if they’re looking to track down all of the game’s Treasure maps, which are most commonly sold at Fence locations.

Where to Find Gold Bars in Red Dead Redemption 2

It’s going to be difficult to sell Gold Bars without actually having any on-hand. They’re quite rare finds in Red Dead Redemption 2, and unless players are taking advantage of exploits like the Gold Bar glitch, they’re unlikely to have very many of them in their inventory. There’s a good reason for this: Rockstar Games took their proper time working over the game’s economy, and an overabundance of Gold Bars makes it far too easy to craft or purchase late-stage Van der Linde camp upgrades.

Still, there are several locations where players can find Gold Bars in the relatively early stages of the game. Many of these locations involve the use of Treasure Maps, again available for purchase through the Fence. By far the easiest way to earn several Gold Bars fast involves completion of the Le Tresor Des Morts Treasure Hunt, the likes of which eventually pays out a total of six Gold Bars. However, that mission is only available to players who purchased either the Special or Ultimate Editions of Red Dead Redemption 2, as it is not included in the base version of the game.

Players can also earn four Gold Bars through the Poisonous Trail Treasure Hunt, or two Gold Bars by following through the Jack Hall Gang Treasure Map. Beyond that, Gold Bars can occasionally be found in random locations. The destroyed town of Limpany, the primary location used in the popular Gold Bar glitch, offers up a single Gold Bar to players not keen on using exploits. While not a massive amount of cash by traditional standards, the town’s sole Gold Bar should still help players purchase items they need in a pinch.

Tracking down Gold Bars to sell at a fence is a fine way to spend time in Red Dead Redemption 2, but it shouldn’t necessarily be one of the player’s main focuses. After all, there are plenty of other opportunities to earn money throughout the course of the game. Still, if and when players do stumble upon a Gold Bar, a quick stop by the nearest Fence will net some quick cash.
