Fallout 76 Fast Travel – Is There Fast Travel?

Fallout 76 is a truly gigantic game, and it can take a long time to cover the map if you’re just walking. There aren’t any vehicles in the game, but is there Fallout 76 fast travel? It seems likely that there would be, so if so, how does it work? We’ve played a lot of the game already in the beta, so here’s all the information on fast travel in Fallout 76 that we have.

Is There Fast Travel in Fallout 76?

The short answer is: yes, there is definitely fast travel in Fallout 76. However, you can’t just use it all the time to zip all over the map, as you can in Bethesda’s single-player RPGs such as Fallout 4 and Skyrim. There’s a cost for using Fallout 76 fast travel to get around, but fortunately it’s not a big one.

How to Use Fallout 76 Fast Travel

To use Fallout 76 fast travel, first you simply open up your map (it defaults to ‘M’ on PC). Then, much like in previous Fallout games by Bethesda, you select the location you want to travel to, and confirm. Also like in games like Fallout 4, you can only travel to areas you’ve previously visited. The big difference with Fallout 76, however, is that fast travel now costs money every time.

The costs increase depending on how far away you want to go, similar to what happens when you die in the game. A nearby location may just cost a few bottlecaps, but further locations (say, a quarter of the map away) could cost upwards of 30 caps. That doesn’t sound that much, but it’s a lot harder to get caps in Fallout 76 so the costs become actually quite sizeable. You certainly don’t want to use fast travel too much, so it’s probably best to pick somewhere that there’s a lot of missions that you want to do. Besides, it’s more fun to explore in a Fallout game, right?
