Nintendo Switch Online Adds Metroid and More

Nintendo is adding three more games to its Nintendo Switch Online NES library, and the addition of Nintendo Switch Online Metroid is just one of them. Since it launched its Switch Online Service on September 18, 2018, Nintendo has been adding three new NES games to its free library for subscribers to play. On November 14, 2018, Nintendo is adding MetroidMighty Bomb Jack, and TwinBee to the ever-growing list of classic titles.

Last month, Nintendo brought us the likes of NES Open Tournament Golf, Solomon’s Key, and Super Dodge Ball. Just as with these three games and the original list of titles available, each one coming on the 14th can be played online if they contain multiplayer modes. While we won’t be able to take Metroid online, the addition of save states will help no end with what is a notoriously difficult game.

Metroid originally released back in 1986 in Japan and came to our shores a year later in 1987. In it, you play as Samus Aran on a difficult mission to find and destroy Mother Brain, in an attempt to wipe out the Metroid population. The rest, they say, is history. Since 1987, Metroid and Samus Aran have both become a key cog in the Nintendo machine. Nintendo is currently working on Metroid Prime 4, and you can find out everything you need to know about the game right here.

Mighty Bomb Jack, meanwhile, originally released in North America back in 1987. The Tecmo classic platformer has you play as titular Jack. It’s up to you to fight your way through 16 levels inside a pyramid in order to reach and defeat Belzebut, rescuing the royal Pamera family at the same time. There is a two-player mode here too.

TwinBee is a classic Konami arcade shooter. The top-down vertical action game never saw release in North America on the NES, but you may remember it was released as a 3D Classic on the 3DS in 2011. The game can be played by up to two players, and has you shooting enemies and avoiding fire. It stands out as featuring arms on the playable ships. If you take damage on the side of your ship, one of your arms will be destroyed. If both arms are destroyed you won’t be able to throw bombs and must wait for an ambulance to arrive in order to get fixed.
