Command and Conquer Remasters Coming From Petroglyph and EA

Just over a month after announcing an interest in remastering C&C, EA has news for the RTS community. The publisher is teaming with Petroglyph Games for a pair of Command and Conquer remasters. Both Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert will be seeing a 4K re-release. In addition, these games will come packed with Covert OpsCounterstrike, and Aftermath. Each of these three expansion packs comes at no extra charge, and EA assured fans that there would be no additional microtransactions.

Founded in 2003 by a large group of ex-Westwood Studios employees, Petroglyph Games has tons of C&C experience. The company includes Joe Bostic who is considered by many as the co-creator of the franchise. Steve Tall and Mike Legg are veteran Westwood employees who touched the best games in the franchise. In the years since Westwood’s closure, the company has put out a string of RTS games ranging from Star Wars titles to original works like Grey Goo. As part of this news, EA announced that composer Frank Klepacki will rejoin his old Westwood cohorts for the remasters.

EA also noted that Lemon Sky Studios is on board to help upgrade the graphics to higher resolutions. Their previous work includes Blizzard’s StarCraft Remastered, proving that they have a pedigree for the real time strategy genre. They’ve also contributed to a wide range of titles, including Gears of War 4The Elder Scrolls: Legends, Kinect Star Wars, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am.

EA is announcing these games just as development begins. Creative director Jim Vessella stated in the company’s post that they started talks just in the past few weeks.

“Getting to chat C&C with the original developers has been one of the highlights of my gamer journey, and I can’t wait for all the incredible conversations to come,” he said.

Since the game is so early in development, EA wants the community in from the ground floor and encourages continued interaction via Reddit and official channels.
