That's the best, least expensive one I've found. I did the advanced search for hertz, but they were all super pricey.

You're cheaping out on the monitor, dude.

I understand not spending too much, but if you're not gonna go for all out quality at least grab yourself a 23-24" one.

Is this motherboard a good deal? Is it $30 cheaper than this one (after rebate) because it's smaller or because it's comparatively a P.O.S? If it appears sound to you guys, would it be compatible with the 3570K I bought? It comes with free memory too.

It's $30 cheaper but it's also 30% worse.

If you buying a 3570K, grab a Z77. That gigabyte or the asrock i posted are a good price.

Okay, smart guy. What about this thing?

And why are so many people complaining about IPS monitors if they're so great?

Is this a good deal for a 250GB SSD? Factor in the ~$60 of Amazon credit I'll be getting and it'll be $100. I love my Samsung phone, are their computer parts good too?

That's a pretty good price, but do you need the 250gb?
It's cheaper and more efficient to pick up a smaller SSD and a large normal HDD. Put the OS and all the programs, maybe some of your favorite games on the SSD and everything else on the HDD.
That same model in 120gb would cost you $40 after the credit's factored in, and $60 will get you a 500gb SATA3 HDD from Western Digital, which gives you more storage space and the same speed for the things you need. MP3s and movies and stuff don't benefit from an SSD anyway.

Samsung gear is universally good, and from what i've heard their SSDs are no different.

I very much enjoy running two smaller sata 3 SSDs in raid 0. You have to create a raid stripe and load a raid driver when you install windows but it really is so easy you can just follow a guide.

Also I tend to suggest getting a Western Digital Caviar Black 500gb as a storage drive of anything other than games or windows.

Do I really need a 500GB drive right now though? Yeah it'll cost the same but I'm not going to fill up the new PC right away. I'm still going to have my current PC that has all my music on it (with a couple hundred gigs of space to spare), and I've got an external hard drive, so I'm not really hard up for space. I can always get a big HDD later, and it'll give me an excuse to clean out the case.

Unrelated: A lot of reviews of components mention things being DOA (though the sample size is skewed since I'm sure most people get good stuff and just don't post reviews), is there a way to find out if I've received a broken component before I install it? Obviously if things are in pieces I'll send them back, but if I put everything together and something isn't working, how do I figure out what component's gone wrong?

I know for my ssd at least the earlier firmware caused miss negotiation of sata 3 speeds and would cause bsods. But since then a firmware update has come out that has fixed it. A lot of reviewers don't know better though and continue to post the problem and give bad reviews. Best bet is to get it from newegg or tigerdirect or a place that you know will take returns and not give you the run around.

If your the type of person who doesn't store much on your hd then I guess you could get by with just a ssd but I definitely filled both my ssds and only have about 100gb left on my storage drive.

SSDs hell, i have 3.5tb of storage in my PC and have already used over half of it.
Flight Simulators use so much bloody space. 150gb worth of FSX and X-Plane, 300gb of movies, 50gb of music and 10gb of porn all just on 1 of my (6) HDDs. I've actually run out of SATA ports so my blu-ray drive is sitting there doing nothing. Anyone want it? $30?

2x 250gb SSDs in RAID would be incredibly awesome, though. Might actually do something like that when i redo my build in 6 months or so.

I'm not interested in flight simulators, I have no movies on my PC since my bed or couch are more comfortable (with bigger TVs), I've got a couple gigs of music but most of that can be deleted since it's on my phone too, and I only use streaming sites for porn.

I do have 1 40GB and 1 120GB HDD from when I upgraded my PS3's (bought a 500GB for the 1st PS3, when that got the YLOD I put the 500 in a Slim that came with the 120GB drive), could those work in a new PC? I'd probably just get an enclosure for the 40GB and use it as a USB drive for various things, but if the 120GB works then that'd be cool for holding stuff until I feel like getting a huge drive. It's a Toshiba 2.5" SATA drive. It's never been used but I'm sure it has all the PS3 XMB stuff on it.

Yeah the 120gb will work, although it'll be quite slow.

Okay, I just bought this:

In case you can't view the page from your region:

Quote:

23" antiglare flat-panel LED
Allows easy wall mounting and can be placed close to a light source and remain viewable.

1000:1 contrast ratio
Enables accurate color reproduction and sharp contrast between darks and lights for vivid picture quality.

250 cd/m² brightness
For a highly visible display and clear on-screen images.

1920 x 1080 maximum resolution in 16:9 HD format
Offers the highest number of pixels available for a full high-definition display.

170° horizontal and vertical viewing angles

HDMI, digital (DVI) and standard analog VGA inputs

ENERGY STAR certified

Don't tell me it's a bad deal, because $150 was pretty much my maximum, and the thing has a 2ms response time. The refresh rate is only 60Hz, but c'mon, 2ms.

I just skimmed through the topic, but I am going to have to tell you that if you are getting a monitor with a high resolution, you better get a good video card that can handle that resolution in games. I got myself a nice dell ultrasharp and everything looks extremely pretty in it, but there is one problem. Framerate drops greatly when I play games at this monitors native resolution (1920x1200). I have a TV screen that has a native resolution of 720p so I play games on that instead, but it is one thing to look out for.

You can never go wrong by getting the performance or mid-grade card of the current generation. Stay the fuck away from the budget ones, though.
