An Obsidian Entertainment new game is expected to be announced at The Game Awards 2018.

Obsidian Entertainment’s New Game to be Revealed Next Week

Obsidian Entertainment‘s new game is going to be revealed at The Game Awards on December 6, 2018 alongside a possible Alien Isolation sequel. The new title is set to be an RPG, and is currently being teased on their website.

Take-Two Entertainment’s Private Division, a publishing arm for “top independent development studios” is publishing the new Obsidian game. Pop-ups on Obsidian’s website show a “Spacer’s Choice” and “Auntie-Cleo’s” logo, alongside a countdown to next week’s The Game Awards. The pop-ups direct to an image of a futuristic-looking handgun, and skin cream, respectively. Obsidian and Private Division have said little else about the game, at least directly.

Obsidian filed trademarks for “The Outer Worlds” in January 2018, less than two months after the Private Division partnership was announced. It is possible that the soon-to-be-announced RPG is related to these trademarks.

A forum post from December 2017 brought up microtransactions in the Private Division-published title. Obsidian said that there would be no microtransactions in the game. Take that with a grain of salt, as plans can change and that was over a year ago.

The new Obsidian game is reuniting Fallout creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky. Last December’s partnership with Private Division divulged a bit of info about the mysterious title. Tim Cain said, “If people have liked our previous RPGs they’re going to like this one in terms of how we make reactive worlds and especially our style of humor.”

Boyarsky, who recently worked on Diablo 3, said, “I missed working on single-player, in-depth RPGs with a lot of choice, consequence, and reactivity.” Whatever Obsidian Entertainment’s new game is, it seems it will continue the trademark DNA of their previous RPGs.

Obsidian Entertainment was recently acquired by Microsoft, although they have said no in-production games will change trajectories. Private Division will continue to publish the new Obsidian RPG, which means it could very likely be multiplatform. Obsidian is also currently working on several projects, and released Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire in May 2018.
