The Game Awards 2018: Journey to the Savage Planet Announced by Typhoon Studios and 505 Games

Typhoon Studios and 505 Games unveiled Journey to the Savage Planet at The Game Awards 2018 tonight with a trailer showcasing a bit of the title’s atmosphere. While we don’t know much about this first-person sci-fi adventure, it looks like it may follow in the footsteps of games like No Man’s Sky, albeit on a more contained level.

Journey to the Savage Planet is Typhoon Games’ first title and has you playing the role of an employee of Kindred Aerospace. The trailer spotlights a video featuring a Kindred Aerospace employee touting the company’s status as the “4th Best Interstellar Exploration Company.” Unfortunately for you, we hear alarm klaxons ring out that show why the company may be stuck at 4th best.

As the game begins your ship has crashed on a planet far away from civilization, and the only thing you can really do is your job. You’ll have to explore the titular savage world and see if it’s suitable for human habitation. This means you’ll have to catalog the local flora and fauna to see if they’re suitable for human consumption (or if they want to consume humans) and attempt to survive the harsh realities of being so far from home.

About Typhoon Studios and Journey to the Savage Planet studio co-founder Alex Hutchinson said:

“The core tenets of Typhoon are strong flavors, lots of intertwined systems, a penchant for bad jokes and a deep and abiding love of collaborative play. Journey to the Savage Planet will encompass all of those things and more.”

Reid Schneider, Executive Producer and co-Founder of Typhoon Studios added:

“This is a passion project for our team, many of whom came from larger companies including Ubisoft, Eidos and WB Games to embark on this indie game adventure with us.”

Tassine Riahi, Technical Director and co-Founder of Typhoon Studios finished with:

“It was a dream come true to reveal our project at The Game Awards. We were thrilled to see the positive reaction from viewers, and we’re eager to get Journey to the Savage Planet in your hands next year!”

Journey to the Savage Planet is slated to release sometime in 2019 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
