So much more than war...
By shandog137
Posted on 04/18/14
The recent blog, Peace in the Era of Call of Duty  really made me think about war games that dig deeper than simply a kill streak reward. The first game that came to mind was Spec-Ops: The Line and although I haven’t played it, I began to wonder if it did the war genre as...

How has there not been a thread for this yet?

http://www.gamerevolution.com/news/pokmon-x-and-y-announced-coming-this-october-16859

There's now actually a reason to buy a 3DS. And importantly, for the first time we don't have to sit months watching the japanese play it first, with a global release.
Holy crap this is a huge update. No more sprites!

I kind of share the same sentiment as used. There are much better reasons to own a 3DS and they're all available right now.

Wait to see the 3DS sales rocket come October. Would be even better if there was a new one released by then, maybe with the normal size but upgraded screens and battery.

3D or not, it will just be more of the same. Fun for a few hours but I don't have the stamina to finish a Pokemon game.

I'm hoping they'll continue the greater story focus they did with black+white, which should help to make it feel less like a grindfest.
Looks pretty good, though. I knew they'd so something major with the series once they got decent hardware, but i didn't think they'd just one day decide 'fuck it' and change a huge chunk of the formula.

Pokemon was good when I was a kid, a time in my life that I would try almost anything to distract myself and pass the time in the bad parts of my life.

I think it requires a really dedicated attention span. What does it say about me that I was more capable of finishing a Pokemon game when I was younger?

It may be more of the same, but Holy Moly 3DS sales are going to SKYROCKET.

I'm still trying to slog through B&W2, so I will probably pass on it.

Reviving due to release.

Got Y.

Pretty cool, man. Best change is the ability to sit in seats.

Couple big changes i've noticed:
The starters now start with their elemental attack. In my case, because i picked the Firefox it came with Ember at level 5. Pretty cool.

And, you now get XP for successfully catching a Pokemon. My firefox went to level 10 by catching a Pikachu in the first forest.
Also, the Lass in the first forest are straight sexy.

Negative:
No more bloody offensive names allowed.
This is bullshit. I can't call my dude 'nigga' anymore, which means now i can't internalize everyone as Ryder from San Andreas in my head.
That was like the best part of the other games, too.

BIG problem is the serious lag issue when 3D is enabled. Drops from 30FPS+ down to 24-26FPS.

I didn't notice a lag issue. I will take your word for it though.

Although it looks like 3-D only on battles and select scenes.

Still...I am enjoying it immensely so far.

It doesn't do it all the time with 3D enabled, but it's very annoying when it does happen because it lags the bottom screen as well, making the menu feel very clunky.

I usually roll with the 3D off, anyway. It looks quite pretty, but not worth the effort of holding it still and the lag.

And yeah, the 3D is only very occasionally on. Battles and some cutscenes, all other times it's strictly 2D.

Moving diagonally in a Pokemon game is so weird.
