As dumb as this will sound, lately I've been listening to a lot of movie and video game original sound tracks. The real "epic" kinda orchestra-style music. I find it really helps me with my drawings and idea creation when I do actually sit down to try and draw. Good examples include...

Mass Effect 2 - The Suicide Mission - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTsD2FjmLsw

The Dark Knight Rises - Main theme - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHFA_wEK_00

Two Steps from Hell - Dragon Rider (and others) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EptSSXNHIfg

I listen to music at http://www.pandora.com - it's a pretty cool Internet radio station where you type in what you wanna listen to, and it'll bring up that music as well as other music from similar genres. So for example, if you typed in "Korn" you'd probably get Korn as well as other music similar to Korn on your playlist.

Only problem with Pandora is you can't skip too many soundtracks otherwise it'll say something like, due to music licensing issues you can only skip so many soundtracks per day.

I definitely did this when I was doing visual art in high school. But now that I'm a music major and write my own music, doing this doesn't work out very well. But if you ever want suggestions for orchestral music, I have loads upon loads of great suggestions.

In my spare listening time (basically when I'm walking to and from campus - on campus I'm usually in the music building and can't listen there, and at home I'm usually writing music so I can't listen there either) I've been listening to a lot of classical music and film music. John Williams has taken over my ipod.

I have been listening to quite a bit of Vaughn Williams though. Primarily this piece, and this arrangement.

Currently, I'd have to say it's probably my favorite piece of music in existence. Powerful shit.

I just bought Torches by Foster the People. Mostly just to hear Pumped Up Kicks, but after previewing the other songs, I decided to get the whole thing.

I think what made me do it, other than loving that one freakin' song, was a dream I had where all of my favorite fictional characters were massacred by gunfire. Hooray for restless sleep. Yaaaay....

Yeah, I like most of them, except the ones where they start "rapping." Life on the Nickel is probably the most annoying.

I don't like most of Nick's newer stuff, but this album is great. The songs flow nicely together.

Yeah! Get up!
http://youtu.be/z2inCuVYieY

This remix is fucking awesome, the pressure builds and builds until it finally just explodes. Probably my favorite song on the album (after Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament: http://youtu.be/r3W7koH-isE)
