Paul Giamatti wants to play Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which sucks because I really like Paul Giamatt but god do I hate the new Spidey flicks. But Giamatti's says he's been a huge Rhino fan since he was a kid and says he'd play the part even if it wasn't for film. Dude should just do cosplay outside of famous Mann's Chinese Theatre, then.

EDIT: I posted this before I had read what Optimus said about Paul Giamatti, so he gets credit for posting it first.

Fox has picked up the rights to Dark Horse comic's Mind MGMT. Ridley Scott will produce. Mind MGMT is about "a government agency consisting of psychic spies and their greatest asset, Henry Lime. After he suffers a breakdown and loses control of his abilities, causing the populace of a town to kill one another, he goes on the run. Several years later, a true-crime author named Meru, who was part of a flight where everyone mysteriously developed amnesia, is saved by Lime and begins to investigate the agency, uncovering her own secret connection to it."

The role of Ava Lord, the titular dame in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, will be played by Eva Green (Dark Shadows, Casino Royale, Camelot).

While Justice League is still penciled in for 2015, no real work other than scriptwriting will be done on it until Man of Steel comes out. Warner Bros. wants to see how it is received before moving forward with the massive team up film. If Man of Steel underperforms, Justice League may be pushed back. We'll just have to wait until this June and see.

News about X-Men: Days of Future Past is starting to get spoilery, so I'll white text this news for it.
Bryan Singer announced through his Twitter that Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, and Shawn Ashmore have been added to the film. Kitty Pryde plays a significant role in the story it's based on so I'm glad Ellen Page is returning instead of Pryde being re-cast.
The film will primarily be set in 1973, ten years after the first one. Fox's Marvel head, Mark Millar also confirmed that Sentinels will appear in the film.

File this under Unexpected Casting Awesomeness. The Hollywood Reporter says Paul Giamatti is in negotiations to play Rhino in Amazing Spider-Man 2. Giamatti is a self-proclaimed fan of the character. He's one of my favorite actors, so I would love to see this. If this happens, they need to keep Norman Osborn in the shadows until the third movie. We don't need villain overload.

Emily VanCamp (ABC's Revenge) is cast as Sharon Carter (niece of Peggy) for Captain America: the Winter Soldier.

To go along with that is a blurb from Robert Downey Jr. himself: "But we can’t help it — everywhere you look now in every Marvel movie there are opportunities where certain new pals of his could be useful. What this is getting at is that the end of Iron Man 3 may set up Guardians of the Galaxy. Will Tony don deep space armor and meet up with Star-Lord and the rest of the Guardians? It would be a great way to integrate them into the Marvel film continuity.

There's some sports-ball game on tomorrow that a new Iron Man 3 trailer will debut during. As soon as it hits online, I'll post it here.

All of this is great news, save Paul Giamatti. Eva Green is certainly a dame to kill for and the X-Men news is some of the best I've heard about comic book movies in a while.

I know that Giamatti is a good actor, but I usually don't like him for whatever reason. Amazing Spider-man 2 is sounding pretty shitty.

The Spawn reboot film looks to have the titular character already cast. Todd McFarlane isn't revealing who yet, but says he is an Academy Award winning actor. A few possibilities that would include: Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Jamie Foxx, and Cuba Gooding Jr. My money is on Foxx.

It seems everyday, someone new has been cast for X-Men: Days of Future Past. One thing director Brian Singer keeps getting asked is if Nightcrawler may return, and his answer is a solid...maybe. Alan Cumming is up for reprising the role, but Singer is still working on how the film will play out. I wouldn't mind seeing Kurt meet Azazel in a Bamf-filled fight sequence. As for who will be in the film, Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) has been cast as the film's main villain. No word on who that will be yet though.

In my last update, I said that all work on Justice League is on hold, except for script writing, pending how well Man of Steel does at the box office. Well even that now is in jeopardy. Will Beall (writer of the recent film Gangster Squad) turned in a script that all sources say is terrible, a script that has been tossed. A release date of 2015 for this film is looking less likely every day. Another concern at WB/DC is that if the Justice League film releases and then tanks, it may harm marketability of the inevitable Batman reboot down the road. They may go ahead with JL after Man of Steel, or they may wait and ride that franchise for two or three films while planning out a better roadmap for a team-up film.

Marc Webb has been tweeting pics almost daily while working on Amazing Spider-Man 2. Many seem to be cryptic hints about where the film may be going. Look at this one...

The locker that contained the Venom symbiote. Webb included the hashtag "happy birthday" in his tweet, but did not specify to whom. February 6th, the day the tweet was sent, is actually the birthday of Dane Dehaan, who is cast as Harry Osborn in the sequel. Posting that along with the pic could mean many things; misdirection, unrelated accident, or, well, that Harry Osborn may become Venom at some point. If so, I hope it's a before the end credits thing. With Electro and quite possibly Rhino, this film doesn't need anymore villains. Also tweeted recently was a picture of this mask:

If you ask me, that black mask looks more cat-like than spider. Also, Felicity Jones (Like Crazy, Diary of Anne Frank) has joined the cast.

While just about everyone knows Captain America, Iron Man and Hulk, The Guardians of the Galaxy tend to elicit more blank stares than not from most casual comic fans. So if you want to bone up on the characters and backstory, here's a primer to get you started. Guardians for Dummies, if you will.

In casting news for Guardians, Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation, Zero Dark Thirty) has the lead role of Star Lord, Peter Quill. Also Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Stargate Atlantis, Conan) may have the role of Drax the Destroyer. I can definitely see that.


All the core Avengers are enjoying multiple stand-alone films, but the one who hasn't is the one who's popularity soared after his role in The Avengers: The Hulk. There's an idea being entertained at Marvel Films to end out the Phase 2 films with Hulk being exiled into space do to becoming too unpredictable, uncontrollable and destructive. That would set up a Phase 3 film based on Planet Hulk, and possibly a World War Hulk arc leading into The Avengers 3. Bear in mind, these are just ideas within Marvel, but remember they do like to plan out these film arcs a few years in advance.

I personally love Venom, so I say screw Rhino and Electro and just go all Venom. Seriously, Venom rules.

But Jamie Foxx in two superhero roles so close together? He's the most likely of those you listed, but I wouldn't be surprised if they went with an unknown to keep the budget lower to accomodate more special effects.

Below is a fan-made concept trailer for a Wonder Woman movie. The director is Jesse V. Johnson, who has been a stuntman or stunt coordinator for such films as The Amazing Spider-Man, Thor and Beowulf. He wants to move on to bigger things, so he shot this trailer to show off his talents. All in all, I thought it was good.

The Fantastic Four, in addition to being directed by Josh Trank, is also now being produced by Matthew Vaughn, producer of X-Men: Days of Future Past. As both films are under the Fox films umbrella, there could be potential cross-over at some point, although that is just speculation on my part.

Highlight to read the latest X-Men casting news: Halle Berry will return as Storm.

In my last update, I posted an image pertaining to Amazing Spider-Man 2 of an eye on black material suggesting that perhaps Black Cat was going to be in the film. Well it looks like that eye was meant to be cut out and affixed to the new Spidey suit. Here's a look as a side by side with the old for comparison.


Also in Spider-Man news, Oscar winner Chris Cooper has joined as Norman Osborn. No info on Green Goblin, but with two villains already, I'd expect him for the next movie.

The update I posted about Marvel possibly looking at Planet Hulk as a story arc turned out to be completely bogus. I'll be more careful about reporting on rumors in the future.

*RUMOR* Supposedly, a member of the production team for Guardians of the Galaxy let it slip that Nova Corps may appear in the film. If you're not sure who Nova Corps are, they're essentially Marvel's version of the Green Lanterns.
