Dragon Ball Project Z RPG announced by Bandai Namco

Dragon Ball Project Z has been announced by Bandai Namco, with the publisher stating that more news pertaining to the action RPG will be revealed during the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour Finals on January 26th. The post came after a Dragon Ball FighterZ live stream, in which Bandai teased “big news” for both FighterZ and Xenoverse players. While the live stream didn’t feature many major announcements, the announcement of Dragon Ball Project Z afterwards has certainly intrigued fans.

Nothing is known about the game at the time of this writing, aside from it being an action RPG. Additionally, Bandai Namco stated that more news would be revealed for Dragon Ball FighterZ, with a brand new fighter set to be added to the game’s roster. “The warrior from Universe 11 is joining the fight,” the tweet states, pointing towards Dragon Ball Super character Jiren.

The tweet can be viewed below:

With Dragon Ball FighterZ having been widely praised for providing the most faithful adaptation of the anime series thus far, fans will be eager to see what Bandai has up its sleeve for Dragon Ball Project Z. The tweet notes that the game will focus on the “World of Dragon Ball Z,” indicating that it will take place during the events of the original Dragon Ball anime’s sequel. This involves Goku doing battle with the likes of Frieza, Cell, and Buu, along with Gohan’s transformation into a Super Saiyan and the eventual destruction/recreation of Earth.

The game is said to enter development in 2021, which would mean that it is all but confirmed to launch on next-gen consoles. It’s unclear if it will still receive a current-gen release, or if this will be a firm next-gen project.

Considering that Dragon Ball Z is widely regarded as the series’ peak, it’ll be interesting to see which angle Bandai go with when it comes to representing its world in an RPG. Unlike FighterZ, which presented a brand new story set in the Dragon Ball world, it sounds like Project Z will follow the anime series’ story. We’ll have to wait until the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour Finals to find out more information, and to see Bandai’s plans for its critically-acclaimed fighting game.
