So I promised that list and here it is.  It's late and it's not as thorough as I'd hoped.  I also wish I had images handy to illustrate every point where helpful.  So, in no particular order - a subjective set of desired features for Fallout 4: Things to...

"No trials. No tricks. No traps.

Our free-to-play model is built on a simple idea: everyone can download, log in, and play all of RIFT, free. Starting June 12, new players will have access to all game content – from dungeons and Warfronts to the latest raids – with no level restrictions." (Rift Website)

Even though in an interview with Game Informer last year (I think) said there is no plans to adopt a F2P model because they are still profitable as a subscription MMO, it seems they have had a change of heart (or perhaps a change of profit margins).

What are you thoughts? I know some GR members don't like F2P (C_nate I think feels strongly on F2P) but I will definately jump in and play a bit.

I don't hate all f2p games. There are a couple that don't go overboard with it. I liked the way GW2 did theirs for example.

The ones that drive me crazy though are the ones that try to monetize every little bit of their game. Two games that I played pre and post conversion to f2p were lotro and swtor and both of them just went crazy with the cash shop junk.

I was actually subscribed to Rift for 3 or 6 months or something like that. It was a game that to me had tons of potential but never did anything with it. They had some great ideas with multiple character builds that you could change at the press of a button and they had a dedicated support class role for dungeons (oh how much fun I had playing a bard, brought back old memories of EQ)

But in the end the game failed to hook me because the world was just so bland. The story did nothing for me, I didn't care for the characters. The whole thing just came across as generic fantasy. So after I leveled up a character to cap I soon grew bored and moved on.

I might go back and check it out at some point since it will be free. Maybe I'll be able to access my characters and mess around and see the improvements to the game.

So I finally got around to revisiting this game the day before.

All my characters were still there, intact. I logged in with my level 50 mage and had absolutely no f'n idea what the hell was going on. I had forgotten how much alternative advancement stuff they had added. It was all pretty dense, and to say I was completely lost wouldn't even come close to describing how confused I was trying to remember what currencies were for what and all the planar stuff.

The talent trees have become such a clusterfuck that they now have you pick out a "purpose" which is a fancy way of saying "character build" and it will choose your talents for you to match the build, err.. "purpose" that you choose.

I rolled a new character and started getting back in to the flow of the game when the old feelings started coming back. This was a game that I really wanted to like, but in the end, this is just a boring MMO that isn't as much fun to play as other MMO's like WoW or even GW2. I just can't get into the story or lore, The world comes across as plain and generic.

The biggest sin is the Rift store. The prices are pretty damn high for many things. An extra bag slot runs about 10$ And they use the sneaky practice (though they are far from the only ones.) of selling gems (the currency they use to buy stuff in their store) in a way where you have to buy a large number of them at one time to be able to buy stuff because the cheapest bundle won't be enough to cover most items. They also flat out sell gear in the store. Anything you can buy off a vendor you can buy off the store with gems. It isn't end game gear but it is better than quest reward items. Was pretty surprised when I saw that actually.

The best thing I can say about it is that it is free but if you are looking for a game like that, GW2 is pretty much better in every category that I can think of and you'd be better off playing that. I'll try to level up another character to cap to try out some endgame pve/pvp to see if it changes any of my opinions on the game, but I doubt it.
