Microsoft is set to announce it will remove DRM restrictions on Xbox One games and the need for you to have the new Xbox "always online".

Sources tell whathifi.com that Microsoft is set to announce the changes later today, with games developers being informed first.

I'm not too familiar with whathifi so this will be taken with a grain of salt until I hear something more solid but this would be a very wise move by MS. Would this change your thoughts on MS's next console? Would you rather have a kinectless launch for 100 dollars less?

Hi Leth

If they're actually taking the negative feedback seriously and are going to re-think The One then kudos to them. People do like Kinnect, and it will sell, but you're polarizing your customers by refusing the option to have it. And the end result is gamers who don't want Kinnect don't buy it, and possibly switch to Sony. People want choice, they also want a console that plays games freely. I mean can you imagine you bring a movie over to your friend's and it won't play because it's locked to your blu-ray player at home? LOL

But yeah, if this is true then Microsoft is doing the right thing.

Hey, it's the first time I've posted outside Misc in years.

Straight from the XBox Facebook page:
We at Xbox love games. More importantly, we at Xbox love gamers. Today we announced changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, loan and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Also, an internet connection won’t be required to play offline Xbox One games. We look forward to gaming with you for years to come.

As one who relies almost entirely on GameFly, this is news I was waiting for. I'm not an early adopter however. I'll still wait a year or so after release before picking one up. Hopefully after they come out with a cheaper Kinect-less model.

*Puts crazy conspiracy hat on* this was microsoft's plan the whole time! The named it the xonxone as a hint that they would drum out negativity and then do a 180 to gain everyone's praise. Now it is truly, The xbox180 *Throws hat away*

On the real, I'm happy for my gamer friends that will be getting a xboxone. Taking these restrictions away has caused those friends of mine to no longer abandon microsoft and will be getting a xboxone now.

Glad they changed course but I still will be sticking to my Sony products. The window of opportunity has already closed.

By the way, it's not a rumor...completely true.

And I motion to ban anyone who uses the clever title Xbox180 from here out....it's just too clever.

Still have to have the kinect kinected at all times to spy on you.

Go fuck yourself, MS. Back-track all you want, but we won't forget the utter contempt you showed for customers. The only reason for this 180 is because publishers were probably shouting all up in their face, threatening to abandon the console, etc.

Yes

Would you guys think its more acceptable if the kinect doesn't actually have to see you? Like if you could just connect it and cover it in a towel?

*Your a towel*

It's good to see them taking the criticism to a constructive level. I'm happy they did this. The always online thing was pretty bad, so the fact that they withdrew that will make people sway a bit.

If Kinect wasn't required, I might consider getting this console. I don't want the Kinect, because I live in a small apartment.

I didn't mind the used game/sharing policies, but the always-online requirement was awful. So, glad it is out.
