I had planned to write something about the Borderlands series, but that will have to wait. I have something I need to get off my chest first. It's very personal, and I hope the two or three of you who follow my sparse blog will spare me this moment. I joked in my review for the bizarre...

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-apu-performance-increase-drivers-windows-8.1,24773.html

"On Friday during Windows 8.1's general availability, Clarice Simmons, a Senior Marketing Manager at AMD, updated the company blog with a report that customers with AMD hardware should see up to 9.5 percent better performance on the same hardware after upgrading to the latest Windows release. That's due to a dedicated group of AMD techs that worked alongside "critical" developers and product groups at Microsoft.

"Our work with Microsoft includes development on the essential operating system 'plumbing' that enables Windows to directly leverage AMD technology in order to run more efficiently," Simmons writes. "The two companies also cooperate on the development and tuning of the latest AMD video drivers.""

I'm on nvidia but i've been curious about upgrading to W8 for a while (at least on my bootcamp partition). Worth it? 7 Pro right now

Of all the AMD cpu's out there, the APU series interests me the most. Of course, benchmarks always look impressive for the APU when comparing it to any Intel chip using solely onboard video. Put in the same GPU and the numbers change. Of course, for the price, and given how well the APU chips run, especially for the casual consumer who wants to play some Farmville 2 or maybe a bit of WoW, you save an awful lot by not getting a GPU.

I have serious doubts about it being a 9.5% improvement anywhere.
I'd roll with a 2-3% general improvement, though.

Now, if it was a 20% improvement i might considering pirating Win8.1.
As it stands, not even worth my damn bandwidth.

Yeah, but the Intel chips do that, too. HD4400 means Minecraft with the far render distance, KSP with smallish crafts and Oblivion with mods which, damn the casuals, is enough for me. Hence my pain and hatred that we're yet to see cheap haswell laptops, even now. If i want to spend $400-600 on a laptop, i'm gonna have to go AMD. Same performance, but much greater heat and none of the delicious battery life.

Yeah, from reading around it seems 8.1 manages to make even more things stop working than 8 did.

It's looking more and more like Windows 7 will be the last Windows OS i'll ever use. Linux after this.
