The PS4 has an amazing share functionality for its users to use. Even though it's very simple to use, it's also very limited of what you can do with it. I'm able to live stream my game footage with my PS4 no problem. My problem, however, is simply broadcasting my chat. I can broadcast my voice on the PS4, but it won't broadcast other users responding to me. So with that, I tried live streaming with my capturing device.

My Roxio Game Capturing HD Pro device I highly don't recommend. Its software doesn't function like it's supposed, but the hardwares works. Like the PS3, PS4 at the beginning of launch has this ability to block HDMI feed. It's known as HDCP (short for high-bandwidth digital-content protection). This means, you can't capture the highest quality of HD like you want. PS3 users were resorted to composite cables. Those who wanted to capture the highest quality from HDMI resorted to buying a HDMI to DVI to HDMI converter. For a better understanding watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZaB8LS1Tqw However, the PS4 doesn't have composite cables anymore. This is next-gen and HDMI seems to the be the way. So, capturing the PS4 with my capturing device is almost impossible to do. The best thing to do is wait until Sony disables HDMI. Shuhei Yoshida already confirmed this will happpen https://twitter.com/yosp/statuses/380671221148286976

I was able to capture my PS4 even with a blocked signal. I somehow worked around it. The thing is, if I plug a headphone and listen to the game that way, it won't make any sound coming out of the TV. If it's not making any sound going to the TV, then it's definitely not making any sound going to my laptop. This, I stumbled upon while exploring the setup. Therefore, if had a complete headset like Turtlebeach's P4C, I won't be able to broadcast not only chat, but the game audio as well. Well, technically I can still broadcast game audio, just not chat audio with the settings the way they are. What I'm thinking is getting a bunch of splitters and a some 3.5mm to 3.5mm cables and connecting one to go out to my laptop and one to go out to my PS4 controller so I can hear both game audio and chat audio. The problem I see with this is the possibility of echoes with the preview audio turned up. I usually have my preview audio turned up, because that's how I can find out if my stream is getting chopped up. So, I did some research and created a diagram of how I could capture both game audio and chat audio. The question is, will it work?

TL;DR Would the below image link be possible to capture not only game audio, but chat audio? (Sorry for the text color. The lines underneath 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable states "(One for mic, one for head phones)")

Large image, click here https://scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/1422397_766115743415107_1254643871_n.jpg

EDIT: Looking at the diagram again, I'll probably need a separate mic to my laptop.
EDIT 2: I can simply leave out the all audio and capture just the chat audio. It would probably work better that way, but still question whether I need to get a separate mic. That's not my headset, btw. My head is about I use to broadcast my voice is about $11 and that has separate cable for mic and headphone.

Great info, but hard to follow. I like that you probably put a lot of effort into drawing that laptop on MS paint! XD

This looks like it should be a blog posting and not a forum posting too.

I don't want to wait until the HDCP is lifted Sad , I was to try to feed it into things now!

I was trying to stream AC4, but my stupid internet wasn't having it. Maybe I'll do it later if it's running better.

No questioning!

So anyway, I've got a quick question for Urbz. Can I stream from PS4 to Ustream and have the videos saved?.

As far as I can tell, Ustream automatically saves the videos.

My videos don't save automatically, but this what I do since I'm using XSplit.

-Login in to Ustream and hover over your profile. A drop down menu will show. Click on "Dashboard"
-Scroll down the page and click on "Remote"
-Scroll down the page and click on "Launch Remote Console"
You then can record your PS4 streaming, but make sure you're actually streaming content.

Since I use Xsplit, I can't see how many viewers I have. I launch the analytic console by hovering over my profile>Click on metrics>click on Star Console>click on the Live tab.

On a free account - the video will be saved for 30 days. <--- This is for standard streaming stuff, but has to be activated by the encoder. PS4 isn't a typical encoder so I'll have to test it on a free account on Monday (my account is set on backend to autorecord, and if you're a PB it saves automatically in house - But outside of PS4 stream , it does save and saves for 30 days. Which is more than enough time to upload them to YouTube :^/

So Sony announced a 'partnership' with UStream, then followed that with announcing Twitch 'support.' What does that really mean? Is UStream featured in a special way on the PS4? Are they the default streaming option? Did money change hands?

Because it really looks like Twitch is getting way more use by PS4 streamers.

^This is my point.

Google Search Twitch - PS4, a million pings.
Google Search Ustream - PS4, a few and a few passive mentions.

I don't know why this is, but when viewing the content inside the PS4 there is no difference - and the content being sent to the pages aren't different on either site. I'm sure some of that has to deal with the fact that mentioning Twitch vs. Ustream will yield 10x more clicks to your website just to gamers alone regardless of the topic. Also, I'm sure twitch's PR machine is churning the mid-night oil.

Twitch and Ustream are the only two options placed equally on the PS Screen so no special treatment there. I don't know what difference 'partnership' vs 'support' mean, but I'm sure as the PS4 grows and time passes the differences in these support partnerships will be more apparent (currently unknown to me).

My guess is that they have something big planned on the horizon like a tournaments or speedruns, giveaways, etc. and good publicity (from a gaming site POV) usually means first dibs on stories or special access to events for articles. Coordinated PR campaigns usually give us clues around what is about to transpire. GR Staff - has this happened to you? I'm sure you guys get propositioned for favorable write-ups in exchange for event passes or exclusive access.

Again, this is all speculation.

I just thought you guys might find it interesting that I'm noticing people using PlayStation $ Playroom for a lot of things, but one of the more practical uses I've seen that is becoming popular is its use in Home Surveillance. People monitoring their dogs, or their families and babies. Kinda cool. Not its intended purpose.. but kinda cool..

Also, since twitch isn't allowing PlayRooms anymore - were seeing more traffic and funny ass weed smokers on cam.

Yeah, I uh sorta fixed my capturing device's problem. I set everything to default for Nvidia and made my capturing device a high priority in task manager. Works great and I now have it as the highest quality and don't have to worry about it getting distorted. Of course, Xsplit lowers the quality a little. I noticed when I was streaming Battlefield 4 the bandwidth is constantly changing depending on how much is being streamed. 2500kbps works for me with 720p being streamed. My only problem is my capturing device decides to drop frames every other minute or so. It doesn't cause the stream to buffer or anything, but it's noticeable.

Quality is always a problem that can't be solved in my opinion. I always want better quality, but I'm good where I'm at. What really made me get a capturing device is due to quality of a mobile device. Nothing irritates me more than seeing someone capture a moment with their cell phone camera or camera overall. I remember when I bought my Dazzle DVC100, I was so happy with that. Too tell you the truth, I will still use it if I had older consoles.

So if you're encoding at 60fps, no one will notice dropped frames (within reason) - what you will notice is the stutter of gameplay due to your capture/encoding devices failing to keep up. If your stream goes from 60 fps to 40 fps back to 60fps in the span on 6 seconds, no one notices. NO ONE. If it drops below 30, they you start having genuine viewer exp problems and your capture device probably isn't set properly. Its funny too because a lot of the stress on the machine is due to the high frame rate.

When your machine is stressed it has two options (drop the bit-rate or drop the frames), most machines drop the frames. The fact that its dropping frames every other minute tells me your stressing it, or at least if you were a client this is where I would help you troubleshoot.

in short buffering is mostly related to your internet connection, fps is mostly related to the stress on your machine.
