I had planned to write something about the Borderlands series, but that will have to wait. I have something I need to get off my chest first. It's very personal, and I hope the two or three of you who follow my sparse blog will spare me this moment. I joked in my review for the bizarre...

I don’t really understand the reason why a game like an MMO is assigned a static grade, most if not all of them are constantly been updated, the bugs and flaws that came out with the game are mostly fixed and new content added on as well as expansions.

I know it would be a big job monitoring all of the MMO games that seem to be coming out now as well as the ones that are already established, but I think you are all up to the task, think of it as pretence for your WoW addiction.

I understand that the argument could also be made for when a fix is made on Xbox Live for a game, does that need an updated score as well?

Well I am falling asleep while writing this but I am sure you will all pull my not so well constructed argument apart in a matter of moments, this is just something that has been bugging me for a while now.

if they couldn;t get it right the first time, why should you shell out money so they can get it right a few months later

the issue is they judge the game when it first comes out, to give you insight to if you'd like the core game itself, not what they add on and touch up a few months later, and as I'm sure many can attest to, some things go unfixed for years

I mean theoretically the next update could turn wow into a crop dusting simulator....

yeah mmorpg's are tricky like that. hell, theres a major updater to ultima online coming up. but there's no way to keep reviewing them without constant play. you may note we didn't review the everquest 2 expansion, that's because nobody plays. burning crusade review due this week, but can you imagine reviewing burning crusade if you had to start a new character? impossible.

i don't play wow myself, i play eve online, but all eve's expansions are free. i'd still give eve a B+ because the learning curve is so steep. awesome game though.

I tried the Eve Online trial and I have a friend who plays it. I think that Eve Online would be cool, but like you said such a steep learning curve and it takes a long time to get into.

Hmm it certainly is a different game since its release, but patches don't merit new reviews.

Though I'm against some pretty stiff competition, I'm the most hardcore WoW player in the GR office, hands-down and potbelly-up. After revieweing around a half-dozen other MMOs and get to about level 25 in each, which takes a fat 20-25 hours on average, you'll see what a strong handle on the game's loop, it's addict-ability, it's breadth, its strengths and weaknesses, etc. you'll have.

Yet, there's just a TON of content available once you reach the level cap in any of these, to the point that the fundamental effectiveness of the game on our psyches is mutated beyond recognition -- usually for the obsessively-powered better.

So after 2 years of continuous endgame play in WoW as tank, melee+caster dps, as well as healing classes, the game really deserves a review strictly on its endgame experience... for each class... for each faction. And if we did THAT for WoW, we have to do it for every game... and where does it end? With at least one reviewer in the grave.

Anyone who wants the job of keeping 2-3 toons at the level cap in 6+ MMOs, by all means, apply here and face the greasy wrath of eternity.

Even expansions have patches, and Mods.

WoW with Pornostars, anyone?

damn you to hell Duke, after avoiding most MMORPG"S (despite a sever lineage addiction ((by the way I feel the game was reviewed rather harshly, than again you guys did review it during chronicle 1)) and a run in with ffxi) I found myself drawn to eve, 8 hours later i emerged to write this post condeming you to hell for subjecting me to a game that will suck the life right out of me

anyways I wont be around to much, I just bought my first frigate, and have to travel to 6 different ports to pick up the weaponry I bought for it

Eve Online is about as close as any MMOG has ever gotten to being a decent game. But it's still too time consuming.

The game I was mainly thinking about while writing this topic was Star Wars Galaxies, that game has changed so much since launch that your review is pretty much outdated on every point it makes, you list lots of proffesions, as the time of writing there was 32 now there is 9. The presence of battle fatigue was listed as something against the game but that was removed over a year ago.

I am sure there is other games that have changed a lot since launch, how about a review is only updated if one of the major points from the review are touched upon in a publish or expansion?

I believe people read reviews to get an idea of what the game is like before they go out and buy it, this is fine for a game like Halo that wont change once it is launched, but with a game that is constantly adapting I think the review for that game should as well, just to keep people up to date on the current state of the game.

Also if that offer of a job was serious I will have it Very Happy You would have to pay for my accounts on multiple games though, also I will only work from the UK Razz
