The AMA changes their stance on Marijuana everytime a newly elected president shops for drapes; it amounts to nothing. This has been going on ever since the Vietnam War.

Marijuana legalization in the US is really held back by one thing, and that's the profit motive for big brother. Turns out you can grow this stuff pretty easy (grows like weeds), but without a shiny new Pfizer sticker it's a no-go.

I think our government would be open to some sort of declassification if there were a way they could readily tax it.

I say they should just introduce their own new version of marijuana - ingrained with a sugary trade secret chemical - and open up a chain of McWeedys. Seriously.

i like to imagine

once cigarattes are gone and the goverment can't make money off of the massive amounts of taxes that it does now, they will relize what they did, and then pot will be legal, just so they can tax the hell out of it.

By making marijuana legal, it won't stop people from growing weed and selling it under the federal price. It'll only make it more accessible for those that have a little more money to spend to buy shitty, farmed weed from/supporting the government.

And what exactly would change by making weed legal?
It would be, what, slightly more easy to get?

As it stands, i'm 2 text messages away from a dime bag if i wish..

I remember when I used to think smoking weed was cool/fun...then I turned like 17 and realized it's a waste of money and stoners are dumb and annoying, although occasionally comical.

Is it lonely up on that high perch? You could apply what you just said to alcohol and video games:

See how easy that was? Marijuana is no different from any other mood altering substance. It has just suffered from a huge negative impact in the United States for many historical and nonfactual reasons. Many people enjoy it, don't abuse it, and prefer it to alcohol or tobacco. And the "dumb and annoying" thing probably comes from the fact that you are hanging out with 17 year-olds, who by definition are dumb and annoying. Once you get to college and find intelligent, rational individuals who enjoy smoking and partaking in intellectual discussion and going outside rather than sitting on their couch all day, you'll realize that not all stoners are stereotypes.

10 bucks says you've never partaken in an actual intellectual discussion while high. It's always just felt like you have.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the glory of marijuana.

I'm just sick of stoners.

Don't get me wrong, I've had tons of stupid conversations that we have written down and the next day gone "What the hell, that isn't funny at all." I've also had tons of pointless debates, such as the ramifications of the Dominion War, and the true horror of teleporters, aka soul killing devices.

But at the same time my friends and I used to get stoned, watch Parliamentary procedure on CSPAN and discuss how it would never work in America, especially under George W. Bush, as well as the intriguing issues and levels affecting British politics. There were times when my Jewish fraternity brothers got stoned, invited a bunch of Campus Crusade for Christ students, and we discussed religion (a recurring theme was how corrupt the Catholic church is) as well as why, as Jews, we are more concerned with being a good person in this life rather than focusing on pledging our immortal soul to Jesus just to get into Heaven.

Listen, there will always be dumbass stoners. Especially amongst the young and immature. I know plenty of friends that had to drop out of UCF and attend the local community college because they smoked themselves into failing their freshman year. But I also know stoners who now work for US Congressmen, so it goes both ways. Ultimately pot doesn't make someone a loser. If they were a loser to begin with, pot just expedites their failings. But if they are intelligent, rational people, they will continue to be rational, intelligent people on or off marijuana.

I love this take on it. Some of the most rebellious people I have ever known smoke. Every day they give their money to HUGE corporations who in turn use that money and buy laws and lawmakers. They are more a part of the system because of that than I am for shopping at The Gap.

You, sir, win.

As to the topic...you know what? Forget about the drug part of it. The hemp plant is so much more than pot. Start farming it (again) and make use of the plant! Look what it can be used for...and it's still illegal? When now even the drug has medicinal purposes?

The whole "it has medicinal properties!" thing is kind of played out. There are plenty more controllable substances that share the same medicinal effects of marijuana that are already legal.

I have

The States shouldn't be so concerned in legalizing medicinal marijuana, but lessening the harsh sentences. WAY too rough down there.
