In a world dominated by violent media, Americans are no more eager to go to war than they were in the 1980s or the 1960s or the 1940s. Hasn't it always been someone else's problem? The overwhelming majority would rather go on thinking it had nothing to do with them and there...

It's Christmas listed with MW3! I'm very excited.

MW3 will of course take a backseat.

I simply don't get why everyone is still so damned horny for OoT. It was a benchmark game for the industry, a classic for its time, but every single Zelda since has built on what made OoT good and gone to different, more interesting places with it.

Twilight Princess played it a bit by-the-books, but that's because this is exactly what everyone f5cking WANTED - or SAID they wanted, anyway.

OoT is my least favorite 3D Zelda, while Wind Waker is my top pick. I have my fingers crossed that perhaps SS will finally take that crown.

And no, it's not that I dislike OoT. I love it. I just do not feel it is the best game ever made, and I think that every console Zelda SINCE is better, as a game, because they all built off of OoT's strong mechanical concepts.

I'll have to replay OoT on the 3DS and see how it holds up, as it has been a while, but I much prefer Wind Waker's ocean - vast and expansive, yet dotted with all kinds of islands and treasures - to OoT's bland bump of empty land. Skyward Sword's dense-sounding lands matched with the open freedom and exploration of the sky sound like it may be a great combination. Guess I'll see for myself soon.

the answer is nostalgia, mario pipe guy.

i havent finished a zelda game since, nor barely scratched the surface. it's probably due to getting older and having less of an attention span. but i just thought OoT had the best atmosphere, best music, best everything. i loved it. the ones that followed seemed too silly and japanese for me.

I'm aware that it's nostalgia, but nostalgia alone still doesn't exactly warrant how the Zelda series gets treated differently than everything else. Look at the way news for SS was covered - straight from the beginning - and you'll see what I mean. It's ridiculous.

And then you get people going, "Whoa, wait, this new Zelda NEEDS Motion+? Fuck that. I pirated it for nothing."

And I wish I was kidding.

How was OoT NOT silly and Japanese? Majora's Mask was more dark, Wind Waker felt like a Disney film, and Twilght Princess was, again, darker. The entire series has some silly Japanese-ness going on. If anything, Skyward Sword looks moreso, based on the character designs, but even then, it's not like Gorons, Zoras, or Dekus weren't silly-looking, either.

And saying that OoT had the "best everything" doesn't exactly form a solid argument. =P But then again, "nostalgia" is pretty much the argument.

The reasons I liked MM and WW more than OoT were, in the simplest of terms, because they both took what was good about OoT (atmosphere, mechanics, puzzles, sidequests, etc.) and expanded upon them, refined them, and applied new structures to them (whereas TP was basically the same structure).

In particular, sailing and exploring the sea of WW is the ONLY Zelda game (since the original, or maybe LttP) that has offered a wide, open overworld full of secrets to uncover and things to discover. OoT's field was neat for its time but is ultimately pretty empty and boring.

Why do you think people did the "roll across Hyrule Field" trick?

Of course, many found WW's ocean to be boring, too, and I get that. It's just a matter of personal taste - the music and vibrant visuals, combined with the aspect of watching things grow closer - and stumbling upon secrets along the way while filling up your map - was very open and therapeutic for me.

SS looks like it's trying to capture that with its sky overworld, but also work on the storytelling style and events that TP used.

At the end of the day, it's all about taking OoT's base formula and expanded upon it, which is why I like them all more than OoT - which was a fantastic game, of course.

But really, I just find it retardedly idiotic how a piece of CONCEPT ART gets treated as a full blown news story, or how scarce gameplay/environment details (which are almost all expected) get treated as "major spoilers."

That nonsense doesn't seem to happen with any other franchise, and as good as Zelda has been, it still doesn't make any sense.

Playing it at this moment. Pretty cool so far, a little slow at the start I think but it looks like it's going to be a fun adventure. Worst part about the game though is the loftwing controls and the cursor controls feel a little sluggish.

I was only able to play 30 minutes worth this morning before I had to leav for work. Luckily I was able to find the bundle at Kmart this morning! Only $20 is nice.

I really liked the Ancient Cistern dungeon. Also had the best boss fight if you ask me outside of the big baddie...

Depends on who you ask. Like I'm sure hardcore nostalgia guys would be like, "Nothing will be better than OoT!!" There's definitely more of a story this time around.

Links: I definitely enjoy the Ancient Harbor part. I think the Ancient Cistern boss is pretty cool too. Feels awesome thrashing the guy's torso.
