#3 on the list, marks against for just not being very Bond-y. It felt like a Bourne movie at points. Nevertheless, the new direction that they're taking the series has been great. Skyfall just felt like a return to the classic, moreover a well-executed modernization. _________________

Zero Dark Thirty
Jessica Chastain delivers a strong performance as a one woman wrecking ball to the world's most wanted terrorist (which belies the true story of the band of sisters who helped in the operation, but hey, that's Hollywood for you.) Liked that it focused on the events leading up to operation in Abbottabad rather than just another film on SEAL Team 6.

Wow, you thought so? What is the movie without her?
She walks the line in her role as a woman in a man's world--not just a man's world but in the high ranking military world--showing just enough responsibility, respect and edge, lending to the verisimilitude of not only her character's growth in the Middle East but to that of life in high stakes, high ranking CIA operations. Nothing was over the top, and thank goodness for that. She wasn't all "GIRL POWER", she was the professional but with the bite that anyone of any gender calls for.
"I'm the motherfucker who found bin Laden."
My only problem is there's no Maya. There's a lot of women who participated in this operation, but there's no wunderkind Maya. _________________ http://imageshack.us/scaled/landing/580/21kb5fp.jpg |

^ I knew she was a "strong" woman. and the film told me that I should fear her - but the entire time I had no idea why? She didn't do anything tough. She was a pushy bureaucrat who never held a gun.
They could've made that movie around the bureacracy to get him and the seal teams excursion. That deployment scene could've easily been drawn out for a half hour of tight-clenched anusses not really knowing what or who is behind the next door. It was over way too quick. _________________

| Watched The Last Stand recently. I liked it. It was bad, but it was good and fun to watch, if that makes sense. |

Yeah, we have completely contrasting views then. I'm glad it didn't focus on the Prez and Seals, honestly. I know that story.
And I like watching the politicos in their environments, and this film falls somewhere in between The Good Shepherd and The Ides of March in the political drama category (closer to Good Shepherd). It was over too quick, though. And i didn't care for Maya's ending.

My favorite part of Zero Dark Thirty was when Jessica Chastain seduced Bin Ladin into giving her all of America's secrets. _________________

Wreck-It Ralph
Good performance for Reilly and an okay job by Silverman, but the film suffers from horrible writing. Felt like I was watching a demo reel. Weak plot contiguity, but luckily it's all over fairly quickly. If you pause the dvd maybe you'll find some enjoyment in reading the game related graffiti on the walls, but once that's done you may as well turn it off because there's not much here worth watching. About 1 minute and 24 seconds of sappy material thrown in near the end doesn't save this animated film from being a letdown.

Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan
Very solid movie. Pretty damn amazing, all things considered. Though not nearly as good as the Journey Home, which is easily the best Star Trek movie ever made.

Chinatown
They did an oldie movie in the theater nearby. Saw it before, but it's still an absolutely fantastic movie. While I couldn't watch it over and over again, I'm glad I got to see it in a theater.

Labyrinth
I had honestly never seen it before. I was glad I played a drinking game throughout it, but honestly, it was really quite fun.
David Bowie really made the movie, though.

It's pretty bad, man. But I knew some here liked it, and to each his own. I'll no longer rate movies. _________________ яёvоlт |
