The perils of the Hype Train…
By shandog137

The recent release of Evolve and The Order 1886 really got me to thinking about the disparity between the perspective of sales-driven publishers and the quality-driven purchases of consumers. The “Hype Train” is nothing new, but the way it is utilized has been creating far more...

The Place Beyond the Pines
8-9/10 really great pacing, excellent story that spans generations... possibly a little predictable, but would see again.

Doctor Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog.

Okay, it may not be a movie, but I watched a DVD of it. Apparently, I'm the only one who hasn't seen it. It was... good. Not amazing. But good.

I don't like Felicia Day, so I was kinda indifferent about her character.

I think if I watched again I would like it more.

Trance

4.5/5

Story is really confusing, but the story oddly enough isnt the draw [even though no one does heist movies better than the brits] its the style in which the story is told and how the audience becomes Danny Boyle's remote hypnosis experiment thats the fun part. I don't know if it took away from the film, but I was constantly asking "am i under"?

In hindsight, I think there were a few times he got me.

Go in there relaxed and expecting this, and you'll have a good time.

Finally got around to seeing Life of Pi.

Overall good movie but the whole message of the story fell really flat with me. I know it's based on a book, but it (Spoilers) would have been better if it was about the nature of reality rather than faith/religion. Anyways, great directing and best CGI animal effects ever.

Oblivion.

Tom Cruise lives in a future house, flies a future plane, rides a future bike, and wears future glasses. He sleeps with his future wife and that's when everything goes to hell.

Some very interesting ideas, but it borrowed many of them from other films. Not the worst summer movie but far from the best, with a notable soundtrack (though it might not be for you).

6/10

Wow, just spoke with a co-worker who saw it and said it was an awesome movie ( with stolen concepts), brilliantly done. I waant to see this - but I will see Trance again NOT under the influence.

Oblivion, the new Tom Cruise movie.

I'm not the biggest fan of Tom Cruise, but it was a pretty good movie. If not a little confusing. For me, I really enjoyed the setting of the film as well as all the cool futuristic stuff, the designs and function of it all.

The music is pretty evocative. Tons of 80s-synth-drama. It sounds a lot like M83, and then you get to the credits and find out it was M83 all along!

HA! I also called that Dan!

*high five*

Oblivion was actually not as terrible as Rotten Tomatoes would have you believe. I liked it, and since it's a piss poor time for new movies until May hits us with popcorn flicks I'd recommend it.

Way different than anything else of Kevin Smith's, but of course I like anything Smith does. I even liked Jersey Girl.
