Last night I returned home from PAX AUS 2014. Long story short, it wasn't perfect, but it was quite possibly the best weekend I've had this year. It was a lot of fun. If you'd like to continue reading, the long story is just below. Buckle up. This is gonna be...

My wife liked how the Air Force guy was on the ground, flying airplanes, helicopters, a hand to hand combatant...you go, Det. Stabler.

And what was this Jenny Olson stuff?

Honestly fun movie that started at a dead sprint and just went faster and faster.

I liked how one of the Air Force guys was named "Jordan" and one of the Air Force girls (the one who said that Superman was hot at the end) was named "Ferris". That was a nice touch.

Anyone catch the Lexcorp logo on the tanker trucks and the Wayne Enterprises on the satellite?

See, this is the one thing I felt they did 100% right. Superman is ridiculously powerful, it's part of being a kryptonian. This movie did both an amazing job of showing just how powerful he really is while also showing the tensions that keep him from always acting in full strength at all times. Though it's a bit weird at how instead of him having his sense of right and wrong, he's just supposed to be "afraid" of people.

Honestly, that's comic book 101 stuff. Come on, Dan, you should know that.

Like, they did a lot of stuff perfectly right in Man of Steel. What they did wrong was Lois Lane. And that's about it.

Yeah, I was really impressed with how they showed the power of the kryptonians. The fight scenes demonstrated pretty effectively the power that superman possesses. Though, I'm curious, how did he SPOLER >>>> kill zod, exactly? Just by brute strength? They seemed to be pretty invincible.

I did see that, and I chuckled to myself. Where exactly is metropolis in comparison to Gotham? Also, that city got completely fucked. So many people died as a result of what happened in this movie.

Gotham and Metropolis are both East Coast cities, usually said to be like 100 miles apart or so. Like, Metropolis is in New York and Gotham is in New Jersey.

I always thought it was the Chicago equivalent for some reason.

Can't be.

Nothing interesting ever happens in Delaware. It's worse than Utah.

This is the End. I enjoyed it and had some laughs while getting the ticket on a steep discount. Otherwise would prob recommend to wait until Red Box release unless you are a diehard fan of that crew and their style of humor/movies. 8/10

Also saw Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters. I thought it was cool with mindless action and a disjointed, terribly flowing story that didn't really need to be followed. Dunno how it only got like a 15 on conglomerate review sites since I've seen much worse at much higher scores. 7/10

Man of Steel
Enjoyed the film, didn't get too excited. Wished the flashbacks were in chronological order though. And holy sh*t, he caused so much destruction to Metropolis. Also, why did he kill Zod. Couldn't he just send him back to the Phantom Zone?

Hey 8/10 of isn't too bad! I'm not a particular fan of the people in the film, though I've enjoyed each of them on several occasions. Mostly I'm just dying for any excuse to get into a movie theater this summer. Still recommend? My money's riding on this drathbone.

I wish I had the power to close this thread until everyone confirms that they've seen Trance.

Seriously, great movie.

Eh I dunno. I'm a fan of them, I own/have seen knocked up, superbad, pineapple express etc like a bajillion times over so I knew I would like the movie. 8/10 might be a slightly bias score and I'd hate to recommend it as the only movie you see this summer when I feel like these movies are hit or miss for people who don't know fully what they are expecting (IE dick humor, swearing, dick humor, drugs, mostly all aroun absurdity)

I'd confidently say if you liked pineapple express you will like this is the end.

This is The End was a great Horror/Comedy. It doesn't hit the mark such as other Horror/Comedies involving a zombie apocalypse, but it was a great effort. It really blended the two styles well.

Also Michael Cera + Jonah Hill + ummm, McLovin = fucking hilarious.

Only cons for me were a few gross-out jokes. I don't mind gross-out jokes as long as they're clever. Some worked, some were stupid.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.

About two weeks ago I was down south in Wollongong (near Sydney, Australia) for the Australian Judo National Championships 2013. In the hotel one night I was watching TV and yeah, managed to catch the beginning of Austin Powers. Ended up falling asleep near the end of the movie... had some weird arse dreams.
