So much more than war...
By shandog137

The recent blog, Peace in the Era of Call of Duty  really made me think about war games that dig deeper than simply a kill streak reward. The first game that came to mind was Spec-Ops: The Line and although I haven’t played it, I began to wonder if it did the war genre as...

I thought This is the End was funny too.

I watched American Reunion tonight because nothing else was on I cared about and I hadn't seen it before. It was ok. It had its funny moments, but 'ok' is the best I'll give it.

This film is incredible. It's a semi loose adaptation of Eugene Allen, the longest serving black butler at the white house. It starts off at a sad pace from his youth and quickly moves on to one familly tragedy after another while going through the history of the civil rights era ending with a message of hope *spoilerz!!!!!1111!one* Obama wins. What i really like in the film is the contrast of point of view between different African American groups presented in the film like how Cecil (the main character) isn't very optimistic of the black panther though they are shown doing community works while his son (a black panther) doesn't approve of Nixon despite his stance on helping black entrepreneurs. It creates a divide between them to the point that the family falls apart.
But still, it's nice to see a film with an entire leading black cast of diverse personality and background leading the audience throughout the time of the black history in the 20th century.
And yeah, don't believe those conservative who say this is an white liberal brain washing anti-Regan film. Of all the president Cecil served under, Reagan was the one who recognition his services and even rewarded him and his co-workers the most then the previous ones. The only negativity of the reagan era was his stance on apartheid (he didn't' support it but he vetoed the embargo anyway in fear of communism). In fact they even skip the jimmy carter era! Come on, that dude did a lot to the black community!
I also saw this film with my mother who cried when they showed the vietnam consequence on the black population (it was more of a montage and a funeral). She later told me of this really sad story she remembered when she was young about how a black friend of hers was drafted and never to be heard of again. She really appreciated how the film portrait the struggle of that era too.

So aye, i say this is probably the best film in the year. Like 30 minutes of standing ovation Oscar worthy. You leave the theater thinking a lot and does make you proud of living in the U.S.

"semi loose adaptation" doesn't even begin to describe it...More like happens to be about a guy with a name.

..who both served the white house, became friends with Kennedy, LBJ and Nixon in their time of need (like serving prune juice while LBJ was constipated) and witness the pivotal moments of black history in the oval office as they served the president lunch? Come on, the names may be different but it's pretty much everything Eugene Allen did just under the name of Cecil. Even the Smithsonian recommends the film and they got a room dedicated to the guy.

They did make some changes here and there to overdramatized but, trust me, it's a wonderful film and worth looking past the inaccuracy in Eugene's biography.

Shocked But but but.... sometimes, corn is good for you!

And stop pretending to all be a Eugene Allen history expert, Dude only became publicly famous since 2008. Before that? He did like one public speaking in 2002... which wasn't recast on television till 2009!
Dude was the obscure of obscure... and yes i notice the coincidence.

I am, in fact, a Eugene Allen history expert and I can say that Allen frequently wiped his own butt with the same tissue paper he had just wiped the president's ass with.

Therefore the movie is accurate.

Ooh, I just watched Star Trek Into Darkness with my family. I think my mom was slightly confused because she didn't remember the events of the previous movie, so we tried to explain, but she wasn't having it.

It was longer than I expected, I think, but it also felt short? I could always always watch more.

And I bonded with my boss at work about the movie and series, which led to another conversation about how young I am (in comparison to 90% of the employees there).

Ended up watching Elysium. It's alright, but it's nothing to rave about to be honest.

I watched the last half of The Incredible Hulk on the Spanish channel. Why? Because HULK SMASH transcends all language barriers.

^ I agree with this.

I watched the animated movie Mass Effect: Paragon Lost last night.

Not to spoil anything but it was alright. The character designs looked a bit too simple for anime movie standards and the animation was kind of dodgy at times. It was a bit difficult to tell what was going on and some of the stuff the characters can do is a tad bit over the top. The story was interesting.

Pacific Rim. Visual treat. Not actually that good of a story. still worth seeing if your a scifi fan or love HD and attention to detail in CGI.

I just saw Don Jon.

Written, Directed, Producer by Joseph-Gordon-Levitt

4/5

Its not a cutesy romance like the trailer led you to believe.. for that reason - i liked it.

Tony Danza is back in full force!!!

Going to see gravity tonight, btw

Watched Riddick the other night at the cinema. It's okay, but it just felt like "Pitch Black 2", with the first movie being better.

Despite Riddick's reputation... he just didn't seem as bad ass or as threatening this time around.

I watched Warm Bodies last night. Interesting rom-com with a dash of drama and horror spliced in. Good film.

The science fiction movie, "Cube"?

Its a cult classic.

It had a sequel Cube 2: Hypercube
and then a prequel was released Cube Zero

It even inspired a famous rapper to call himself Ice Cube.

Erm, anyway, last movie I saw was... Baggage Claim. It was a chick flick and doesn't deserve the time it takes for me to share the movie poster. At least I was able to not pay for it by redeeming my scene points.

Sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet. But the good news is that I won 1st place at Timeplay and won free tickets, a free popcorn combo and 1000 scene points. It's 1400 points for a free ticket.

That's what's great about seeing stupid movies, it's full of stupid people who suck at movie trivia.
