So much more than war...
By shandog137

The recent blog, Peace in the Era of Call of Duty  really made me think about war games that dig deeper than simply a kill streak reward. The first game that came to mind was Spec-Ops: The Line and although I haven’t played it, I began to wonder if it did the war genre as...

Oblivion - I was pleasantly surprised and liked it. Nothing groundbreaking, but the CGI was used appropriately, it did a really good job of drawing you into the character, and paced itself well instead of focusing on action all the time. Soundtrack is huge plus. 4.5/5

Attack the Block

Finally got around to seeing it, after everyone said it was great.

It was great. Seriously, I thought it was fantastic.

4.5/5

Pfffft, Longo is so not cool because he hadn't even seen that movie yet. I was right about Attack the Block and everyone else, especially Longo was wrong.

I suppose that's fair. When it comes to video games, I was rated best taste, and know of a bunch of games that are amazing.

So, used, you win this round. Enjoy that flavor. The thing that tastes like victory? It sticks with you.

Saw Iron Man 3 last Friday night. Pleasantly surprised!

I thought it wasn't as good as the first Iron Man, but it was better than Iron Man 2. The pacing is a bit slow at times but overall, it was a good movie. I liked the final fight scene as well, pretty cool.

Looking forward to the next Thor!

Iron Man 3

I would use the exact same terminology as Craig about it. Pleasantly surprised, better than Iron Man 2, occasionally slow (hello Tennessee).

I was so happy when I saw AIM. Oh god, as soon as I saw Advanced Idea Mechanics I knew that Mandarin was going to be small fry, and was very happy with. Which, honestly, his revelation was a very clever idea. And I loved the interpretation of Iron Patriot.

It had its problems, but that's okay.

Saw the zombie movie Warm Bodies recently.

It's not bad and has its funny moments. It was entertaining and I enjoyed it.

Although, I think the reason for zombies to become human again was a bit... uh, different?

you know, i always figured that if there would be a real zombie infestation, we would find a cure for them rather then kill them all like in the movies. It's a nice touch, jsut because they are living dead doesn't mean they can't go back in being humans.

Also, loved Arrrr's choice in music.

The last movie I saw:

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

It was okay, I guess.

Like most people, I loved the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Like most people, I was excited when they announced the long-awaited Hobbit movie. And, like most people, I was disappointed when they announced it was going to be a two, then three part series. I never got around to seeing it in theathres, but I saw it last night. Here's what I thought, GR review style:

+ It was Peter Jackson, returning to Middle Earth!
+ Trolls! Goblins! Wargs!
- The action scenes were blurry, the result of 48 fps, I presume. I don't know how it would look in the theater, but on my TV, the answer is "not so great, and at times, quite distracting."
- It just didn't "look" as good as LotR. When we had dirty people trudging through Middle Zealand, it looked "real." This time around, with impeccably coiffed beards zooming around impossibly lush forests, it looked "fake".
- And speaking of impeccably coiffed beards, what was with the dwarves? Some of them had the aforementioned beards and bulbous noses and foreheads, but then you had Thorin, this hunky dwarf with a handsome face and restrained facial hair. I would have preferred some consistency, making them look like a unified people.
+/- Six more hours of this?

Saw Iron Man 3, of course. Really awesome. After credits scene wasn't what I expected, but still good.

Watched John Carter the other night. Much better than what I'd heard, and the alien effects looked on par with Avatar.

Tonight I saw Super. Pretty enjoyable. Ellen Page in short shorts doing summersaults and cartwheels made my night.
