So much more than war...

The recent blog, Peace in the Era of Call of Duty  really made me think about war games that dig deeper than simply a kill streak reward. The first game that came to mind was Spec-Ops: The Line and although I haven’t played it, I began to wonder if it did the war genre as...

I've been in a bit of a 2D side scrolling kind of mood as of late, and I thought what better series does the genre best than Castlevania? The last game in the series I've played (and quite frankly, the only one of two Castlevania games I've played) was Symphony of the Night. Loved it, and find myself craving more. Which one of the choices on top would you guys recommend?

I know this topic will seem a little retrospective to some, what, with your 3D handheld game devices 'n' all, but I got to make due with what's available.

I had Portrait of Ruin and barely played it. But I barely played my DS at all, so don't mind me.

This is funny. I was just finishing Portrait of Ruin. I think either Order of Ecclesia and Portrait of Ruin are both great games to start if you want to get into Castlevania (for the DS).

Order of Ecclesia has pretty good artwork and was a departure from the usual Castlevania games since you don't start from Dracula's Castle.

Dawn of Sorrow was a sequel to Aria of Sorrow. So if you haven't played Aria of Sorrow yet I wouldn't recommend playing Dawn of Sorrow since you won't get what's going on at first.

So in short, go with Order of Ecclesia first.

Portrait of Ruin is fantastic and I love the variety in level design.

Dawn of Sorrow is the best of the three, to be honest. I find it to be more balanced than the others. And while it's true it's a sequel, who plays Castlevania for its storyline?
