I'm just saying, what would the guy have to do to lose all the respect from Steam/Half-Life fanboys? The sales, the platform as a model for less disruptive DRM, Half-Life, Portal, L4D... Valve manages to do lots of different stuff, but I honestly feel like it's taking way too long for Half-Life 3.

That'd be my pick honestly. Release a fucking product already. It's obviously the engine. They're like oh, source 2 is coming, so let's put it on that. And then they're like oh new consoles are coming, we'll do it then. IT'S NEVER FUCKING COMING and by that I mean, look at DNF. It basically should have never come. Is that the fate you want for the HL series?!

I think the biggest issue for me is that the fan can't make up what they want: episode 3 or half-life 3?

They never really had an ending planned. Half life 1 was created with all these cool little concepts (Like the gman) in it with no intentions of them ever really having to explain anything. It didn't even really become super popular until the counter strike mod blew it up.

Half life 2 was great. episode 1 they took all your weapons away and you regained them, in episode 2 you have everything back including your crowbar(they even make a joke about it). And its a great series of games, To end it though people are expecting a lot of answers to questions. If they release anything other than the second coming of jesus fucking Christ, in video game form, people will be disappointed.

This way they continue to generate a longing buzz for valve to keep going. Just another reason for hard core half life fiends to want to give valve as many purchases as possible in hopes that they will see the half life ending they have spent a better part of their lives working and waiting for.



On the bright side. Source Engine 2.0.... With DX11.....Half life 3 in DX11.....Awesome

They'll release it when Steam starts to go down hill. Maybe hell will freeze and pigs will mutate wings, and Origin will stop being such a horrible heap of shit, and people might stop using steam.

It's at that point they'll release HL2: Ep3 exclusively on steam/steambox and get roughly all of the sales, ever.

Then they'll do it all again 10 years later with HL3.

I think EP3/HL3 hasn't been announced because they don't want to suffer the same fate of DNF. They'll announce it 5 years from now when they know it is only 1 year from being done so they could say "it has only been in development for 1 year, lolz."

We'll probably see Half-Life 3 when Valve announce the successor for the Source engine.
