The perils of the Hype Train…
By shandog137

The recent release of Evolve and The Order 1886 really got me to thinking about the disparity between the perspective of sales-driven publishers and the quality-driven purchases of consumers. The “Hype Train” is nothing new, but the way it is utilized has been creating far more...

I just don't have anything to compare to what's been posted here already. I'm also still using an old CRT monitor, and ~15 year old speakers, but they don't really matter since I just plug my $7 headphones into the front of my computer. The most PC gamer-savvy thing I have is a 5-button mouse.

I also do a lot of PC gaming, but my set up is pretty lame. And also my desk is a mess.

Its not about who has the best its about your unique system and space. Ive always loved going to other gamers/druggies houses and seeing there individual environments. Fascinating.

Snapped a quick pic of mine:

What you're seeing is a 40" LCD and an old 22" monitor, with my PC hidden behind the TV with a 360 and PS3 next to it, running through an UPS.

To see my awesome cable management go find my build thread.
Quick specs:
i5 2500k - 5.2ghz max, 4.5ghz normal
HD6870 - overclocked to the moon
60gb SSD, 2.6tb of other HDDs
TX-750
Blu-ray and some fans an shit
Basic MS wired keyboard, deathadder mouse, USB extension cables to work while i lean against my wall in bed.

My favorite part about my PC is turning it on.
Due to having 4x noisy HDDs and 7 fans, it sounds damn cool at first startup.
Part that pisses me off? The unused HDDs spooling down to conserve power. Lags for 2-3 seconds on certain things while they spin back up.

I loved my old 120hz CRT. At one point I would try to run games in windowed mode so I could still have widescreen on my 4:3 CRT.

lol yeah we don't care for cases much around here, Just gotta be cheap, hold a bunch of 120mm fans and good airflow. He wouldn't take my advice and stand it on its face though Laughing

Hes lucky he took my advice and didnt try to get a 680 gtx we would have had to cut into hit case to get it to fit. Even though i dont run one myself for some reason I love matx gamer builds. Something about all that power in a small case.

ITX builds are cool but theres only a couple good gamer motherboards in ITX and if the case doesn't have large fans the noise gets to me.

You get great airflow by not putting the side cover back on. Even better airflow is buying a case with a removable motherboard tray, and then throwing the case in the bin.

I don't want to post my PC because you guys will make fun of it. Especially since it's a 5 year old prebuilt that I've just done enough surgery on to run modern games.

But once I do a clean up of my work area I'll post some pics.

I guess I can post some pics later today. But you're not going to see much of anything since it's a laptop.

Thank you. You should definitely post pics. post your environment while your at it. It may sound strange but I really love observing other peoples environments each one is a lot more unique than there inhabitants think.
