E3: PC or rather about the lack of it

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

Was running out of room on my single TB so I picked up a new identical drive. Debated about going RAID or JBOD since I had 973GB worth of data. Eventually had the epiphany the decision would only get harder as I added more data, so I yanked the band-aid off quickly. Backed up critical files and saved games, blanked the HDD and served up 2 platters of RAID 0. Tested with my modded Kerbal Space Program directory and was very pleasantly surprised with the better load times.

OK, I'm a Mac which means I'm actually the cool-level equivalent of John Hodgman in these forums, so what's the fuckin' difference?

Raid 0 is mirroring your drive across two hard drives so you have quicker read and write times.
It does not give you the safety of Raid 1 which is one hard drive mirrored onto the other. Most people dont use Raid 1 unless they have some critically important data that absolutely should not be lost.
JBOD is "Just Bunch Of Disks"

I run two SSDs in Raid 0 for my OS and my games. I will never go back.

Enjoy your new setup Mobius_Sean. If you ever get a chance you should try out a system with a SSD. The price has really dropped now to the point that we have one in every gaming pc and laptop in our house.

I keep getting tempted toward SSD as they come down, especially since I have the CM Storm Stryker case. It has a SATA dock built into the top where you can just hot swap SSDs. I mainly have just a butt-ton of games, but anything critical like school stuff and 3DS projects get backed up on an external drive. Someday I'll take the plunge, but having an older gaming rig in the family that has had a (knock on wood) fault-free RAID 0 since 2006, I'm fairly comfortable with my setup. On the plus side I won't have to blank the drives to add an SSD.

I've been thinking about rebuilding my desktop with new drives recently. I have too many of them (7) that could easily be replaced because they're all 500gb except for a lone 1tb.
1x 120gb Samsung 840
2x 1tb WD Blacks in RAID 0
1x 1tb Seagate (already in there)

I think that would be much better. Faster, more energy efficient, more space.

If i had mad cash i'd RAID up some 840 Pros and enjoy a windows that boots faster than the BIOS.
