It's coming in 30 minutes. For those that don't know Sony announced a press conference a while back that's taking play in thirty minutes.
I don't know where else you can watch it, but I'm watching it here.

Well that was a bit disappointing. Its only the first part though. Next part, and console unveil e3?
They didn't go into any detail about the PS4. They only showed the controller. Not a console.
As far as the games go same thing as any other stuff. Lots of pre-rendered videos, stuff that could of been done on the PS3, or the usual launch titles.
Nothing to get excited about yet as this was mostly teaser. |

They confirmed the hardware. Octocore PC processor, 8gb of ram and a 'high end' graphics card.
Combined together, this makes the PS4...
About 1/2 as powerful as my desktop.

Well at least now developers wont hold back just to make sure the game also runs on 8 year old hardware.
I saw dx11, particle physics, tessellation, Ambient Occlusion, and high resolution textures. All great things.
I also saw way to much motion blur and depth of field in some other titles though.

^and that's where having AAA exclusives could really help Sony, but no.
Best thing Sony has going for it right now is Naughty Dog and SCE Japan Studio. Excited for Puppeteer. But damn, Sony needs to get their first party situation in order.
2 hot devs ain't 'nuff.

I really liked this.
All in all, I liked what I heard. It wasn't amazing, but the potential is fantastic. I really think that the reason they're doing this now is so they can build up hype prior to E3, which is only gonna be 4ish months prior to launch, which is not enough time for hype.

I like the streaming as well. I don't have as much time for games, or I just don't want to play them any longer, i can't decide... but I do like knowing about new titles, and sometimes watching playthroughs can be just as fun as playing. Reminds me of watching my good friend play Resident Evil on one life back in the day. Good times, man. (...good times...)

8gb sure sounds piddly compare to a PC but then you have to realise its unified DDR5 176 GB/s linked to both an x86-64 compatible 8 core AMD processor, totally custom, not off the shelf (with an SPU dedicated to background tasks like PS cloud, share button features, game streaming and os) and a 1.84 teraflop GPU. More than enough to build a powerful GAMING platform.
After all that though I think the best indicator is the graph of the DOUBLED polygon count potential over PS3, this thing can make a purty graphic go good.
I'm surprised with Gakai/ PS cloud streaming PS1/2/3/4 games they bothered with an optical drive, could have made an important statement.. |

Ugh cares...but not about Battlefield. I like the fact it will stream to Ustream, but I can see all thousands of videos being choppy like mine are when I first started. Like I said before, If it wasn't for Urban, It would still look horrible.

They could've also got no sales, too, but Sony aren't stupid. I sure as shit wouldn't buy a console that only streams or has to download because my internet sucks, as does the internet of at least 75% of the people who buy consoles. Then microsoft would come out and be all 'LOL WE HAVE DISC DRIVE' and get all of the sales.
As for the 8gb, it's fine. That's enough for DX11.1 games and some decent, 25gb blu-ray textures.
Actually, MS not announcing anything in regards to the Durango is probably the reason Sony were tight on details about the PS4. If they announced now that it would have no used game sales and be region locked, MS would laugh and announce the opposite and get all the sales.
Incidentally, if it is region locked Sony can go fuck themselves and enjoy not having my money.

I'm only worried about when they're going to drop PS3 servers for all my digital copies. Being honest, I'm excited by the PS4 but probably won't buy one out of the gate.

of all the english language channels (2660) that embedded the Playstation meeting GR ranked 356th with 648 people watching on site.
playstationlifestyle ranked - 163rd w/ 2430 ppl
both sites higher than psnation, facebook,and various versions og .es or .fr gaming sites.
just thought you'd like to know that.

I wouldn't be too worried. Like Rakon mentioned in another thread Sony stopped production on PS2 consoles about a month ago. I can only assume the PS3 servers will continue to run for years into the PS4's life span.
Also there must be a way to transfer everything from your PS3 HDD onto your PS4. Sony has always been generious in the past with backwards compatibility. Until of course PS3 went slim.
It's going to be awhile before I get one. I waited until the PS3 went slim before buying one. It may not be backwards compatibile but I've never had any issues like the YLOD that were common on the fatter, newer models..
